Hi all, just got results back from antibodies test and it gave a reading of 3.6 ( normal range 0-5 ). Does this seem normal? Thanks π
Is 3.6 a normal Antibodies level?: Hi all, just... - Thyroid UK
Is 3.6 a normal Antibodies level?

Tilleg,
3.6 is within range so it is normal ie negative.

There are two sorts of antibodies- TPO Ab and TG Ab. (Thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin)
BOTH need checking, if either, or both are high this means autoimmune thyroid - called Hashimoto's the most common cause in UK of being hypo.
TPO is rarely checked (as you discovered) and TG almost never checked. More common to have high TPO or high TPO AND high TG, but negative TPO and raised TG is possible, though rarer.
GP probably won't test TG Ab
Suggest you ask GP to check levels of vitamin d, b12, folate and ferritin. These all need to at good (not just average) levels for thyroid hormones (our own or replacement ones) to work in our cells
ALWAYS Make sure you get the actual figures from tests (including ranges - figures in brackets). You are entitled to copies of your own results. When you get results suggest you make a new post on here and members can offer advice on results
If you can not get GP to do these tests, then like many of us, you can get them done privately
SlowDragon- thanks so much x
SlowDragon, I had a call from the receptionist at my Doctors today asking me to come in and have the Antibidodies test repeated? I don't understand why though as she told me on the phone last week that they were within the normal range? I'm just realising that you said I should have been given two results but I was only given one? Any ideas? Thanks π
