tyrosine and st johns wert
I once read not to take St John's Wort but can't remember why now.
I did too but like you I can't remember why. I know it is regularly prescribed in Germany and I used to take it years ago but I'd be very careful with it now. I'd definitely speak to your doctor or pharmacist first.
I heard about it just before a new shopping mall was opened and I wandered into a Holland and Barrett. They were proudly pushing a computer check to see what treatment was best for you medicine wise orcquestioned about medicines. Ibadked if St John's Wort could be taken by hypothyroid people as. Ouldnt think of anything else but the answer came back 'yes'! What I had been told though must have been a compelling reason because I decided H&B hadn't a clue!!!
Depression is a SYMPTOM of hypothyroid not a seperate thing.
I wouldn't take both of them together as they are "opposites". St John Wort increases serotinin which for most people is calming, while tyrosine is more of a mental stimulant and increases dopamine. Tyrosine is part of thyroid hormone so might affect dosage.
hi thank you. I have developed depression since long term ill housebound with M.E diagnosis.
I was prescribed st johns wert by a medical herbalist and do well on it as don't want antidepressants. my mood gets low due to the housebound status but doc said not clinically depressed.
I just wondered about tyrosine as heard it helps too for thyroid but maybe I should just stay with NDT and figure out adrenals as the dhea has always been so low.
its a minefield trying to figure it all out on my own.
thanks for your replies
