Hi Speckles, have you had your thyroid hormones tested? If you think you may have undiagnosed thyroid disease you should have your thyroid hormones tested, including TSH, free T4 and free T3 (most doctors won't do this last one). When you get these post them, including the ranges on this Forum for some good advice.

I am assuming GP has increased your dose to 100mcg and if you are symptomatic you have to have a 25mcg increase of levothyroxine until you feel well and are on an optimum. You should have a blood test every six to eight weeks with an increase. Not until your TSH is somewhere within the range. It should be 1 or lower with a FT4 and Free T3 towards the higher end of the range.

Unexplained weight gain is a clinical symptom of hypothyroidism and until someone is on an optimum dose our metabolism isn't raised high enough for dieting to work quickly. People get very despondent when the weight doesn't reduce but being hypo does make it more difficult so allow your thyroid hormones to increase and symptoms resolve before dieting.

Do you have unpleasant symptoms apart from weight gain

Seriously painful isn't it ☹ I hate being fat but after a year of eating healthy, including more healthy fats, getting all ducks in a row, still can't lose just gain. Last year after 3-4 months on NDT I lost 4lbs in a week in January and 5lbs in a week in March.... was soooo happy but since then back to gaining only no matter what. Sorry love no advise... clearly... just sympathy, empathy and understanding ((hugs))

Yup me too, iron willpower, first diet at 17 and kept weight controlled ever since through two babies, stopping drinking (recovering alcohol) stop smoking. At 45 when I first got really ill... 8months after stopped smoking... that was it. 12months on 800 calories a day gained 12lbs then the next year swung from loosing up to 8lbs in a week no matter how much I ate to gaining uncontrollably... then back to just gaining apart from the two brief wonderful losses last year ☹ 60 now and still fighting to find out what is still out of wack with my hormones. Sigh... must go hug my dogs, they always snap me out of self pity lol... well mostly

You might have to think of a small increase in NDT as sometimes we plateau but aren't yet on an optimum.

Do you think if you raised NDT slightly last year that may have helped?

Oo sorry shaws I missed this. T3 was over range in blood as it was ☹ tried T3 only for 3 months but couldn't increase as sent blood pressure rocketing. Switched back to NDT and blood pressure down nicely. I'm doing six weeks then test on 1 3/4 which is probably over range but kinda lost now. Count blessings for small improvements ... I really do ...but eyebrows and nails start to grow then go backwards again and I get... flummoxed and weight still sticks or creeps up lol. Sorry could write a book on the past 18 months ☺
