Foot pain

My daughter and I have both got underactvice thyroids. She has been complaint of a pain in her foot at the side of the arch when walking. Do you think it is related to her Thyroid?

Hi Sylvia I am a podiatrist/chiropodist. I am quite new to this forum and don't know a huge amount about thyroid problems. But I think it is unlikely that foot pain is due directly to thyroid problems. However I see a lot of patients who are overweight or have put on weight quite quickly who suffer with pain in the arch area of the foot. A good podiatrist can make an insole to support the foot in the shoe. But you do need to wear a good fitting lace up shoe! As both you and your daughter suffer it may be a congenital problem with the foot. Gp's are notoriously bad with feet (as with thyroid problems ). So best bet is to find a HCPC registered podiatrist. Good luck!

This is a link which may be of interest as it details the clinical symptoms.

If we are hypothyroid I think any pains/aches are due to maybe not being on sufficient. You will see 'foot pain' within the link. Maybe it's time for a new blood test preferable TSH, T4, T3, Free T4 and free T3. particularly if your daughter can tick off a few more symptoms.

Hi Sylvia, I suffered with a very similar sounding pain in my feet for a few years. Sometimes it was agonising and I could hardly walk on it, not good when you do a job where you're on your feet for long 13hr days. I tried all sorts to help with no relief but after being diagnosed with Hashimotos, starting on medication and following advice from people on here relating to supplements and diet, things have improved, albeit steadily, but I now have no pain in my feet at all.

That sounds similar to what I had. It was plantar fasciitis. Had to massage the sole of my foot every morning upon waking by rolling my foot on a tennis ball to loosen the "band" in the sole of the foot, this was amongst other little remedial exercises I did for relief.

I got some off-the-shelf orthotic inserts from Boots to put in my trainers which relieved the pain and I was able to walk around OK. They also fitted in OK in other pairs of shoes that I had. My podiatrist said they were fine as long as they helped me.

I'm positive that this was one of many symptoms I had before and up to being optimally medicated. It has now gone, thank goodness!

Same here! Some mornings I could barely walk downstairs but I rarely get foot pain at all now.

I had plantar fasciitis when I was untreated or under-treated for my thyroid. It causes pain when first putting the feet to the floor after waking. It can last for an hour or so in the morning and gradually wears off. I also found while this foot pain was happening that my ankles wouldn't bend, so going downstairs was difficult and very painful. The ankle pain would wear off just like the foot pain did, after about an hour or so.

When I started treating my thyroid the problem gradually went away. But I also improved my nutrients at the same time. That may have been a factor as well, I'm not sure - but my theory is I needed more T3.

How is your b12? I relate My foot pain to my pernicious anaemia and it's quite common with b12 problems. Have a look at the pernicious Anaemia forum here on health unlocked and search for foot pain

Yes,I had it.I came across a reflexology chart of the foot which showed the exact area of pain as thyroid associated .Perhaps try reflexology. Mine went eventually when on levo.
