The benign thyroid nodule I have presses into my trachea at night I am kept awake by coughing the entire night. The GP has prescribed a strong Codeine linctus, which works, but isn't great for the bowels.. Does anyone have any ideas for sleeping?

Help sleeping
Marou,
The only thing which worked for me was to sleep on banked up pillows. If I lay prone I choked.
My father is having surgery to have his removed I don't know if that's the answer though cannot there be something to shrink the nodule is my question

Thanks, and good luck to your father. I just decided to go down the laser route.
I have seen some studies that say thyroxine helped reduce thyroid nodules. Have you had yr tsh, ft4 & ft3 tested? If not get them done and get a copy with the lab ranges shown.
I assume that you're being monitored regularly by scans and biopsy as nodules can change in size or like mine become multinodular. In my case I had a thyroidectomy (nodules became substernal and breathing/swallowing started to be affected) my sister only had benign nodules on one side so had a hemi. I would say hang on to yr thyroid if you can as long as its safe to do so. Being thyroidless has a lot of issues.
