Oh dear I'm in the bad books.

Hooray GP has given me script for T3, I haven’t mentioned that I’ve already started taking it having bought it from Greece, my question is I’m now up to half a 25mg pill a day of the Greek stuff, but of course it’s a different brand, will I be ok to just start taking the 10 Mg of Mercury (robbing) pharma that I’ve been prescribed or should I split it?I am sensitive to brand change. I’ve also just got over the flu and explained to GP that although at one point I thought I may die I actually didn’t care as days all rolled into one and was just getting up to change sweat soaked clothes and did he think that undertreated Thyroid may have added to this. He just went, “well that’s the flu, killed 19 Million people in 1919 more than the Great War, that’s why we tell you to have the shots,” so he doesn’t know then! Then in my befuddled undertreated state with added flu for interest, my other half didn’t finish work until 10 last night and I went to bed at 9 leaving my keys in the door meaning they couldn’t get into the house! Add to this I’m as deaf as a post, 2 hearing aids, which of course I don’t wear in bed and it took best part of an hour of doorbell ringing, door banging, shouting, ringing landline & mobile before I was aware something was going on, well you can imagine how popular I am today!!!!!!!!! God it’s going to be an expensive Christmas what with the divorce and all.

Mind you they’re deaf as well so I should get some understanding, I mean our conversations tend to go,

Windy isn’t it?

No it’s Thursday!

Oh I am as well you want tea or juice?

That Or I do the smile and nod and say yes, I did this last week to my nextdoor neighbour who said something to which I laughing replied, "oh yes, yes!" she looked horrified and said, "DO I??? " I had to fess up and say I hadn't heard, turns out she'd asked , "do I look like mutton dresses as lamb?" Oops!!!

And a happy Christmas to All!!!!!

Marty123,

Do you split the 12.5mcg T3 you take?

in reply to Clutter

it's a 25mg pill that I split into 2 so no I take 12.5 ish. but I did just take a 1/4 for the first couple of weeks.

Marty123,

If you've been taking 12.5mcg in one dose there's no point in splitting 10mcg into 2 doses.

in reply to Clutter

Ok was just worried about different brands being different strengths as we know they aren't interchangeable.

Marty123,

Well 10mcg is obviously less than 12.5mcg whatever brand. Mcg for mcg I don't find any difference in Mercury Pharma or Tiromel.

in reply to Clutter

do you know I worked out 10 was less than 12 but thanks for pointing it out but for those of us who are brand sensitive it makes a difference but thanks for the advice

For those of you who have read this far I think that it is worth pointing out a few things that I suspect that most of you know but some may not.

Any drug can differ by 5% of what it says on the packet. So if you are taking 100mg of T4 and change brands you could end up going from 95mg to 105 mg which is enough to make some of us go from undertreated to overtreated or visa versa, which can be a problem.

Also all thyroid drugs are so old they have never gone through the Bio equivalence testing, meaning that with one brand of T4 100mg you could be absorbing 70% over 5 hours whereas another brand you could absorb 90% over a full day, no one knows they’ve never done the testing, which is why the guidance that came out in 2013 says if you are sensitive to Thyroxine, old or pregnant if you change brands you should have your bloods checked. This is why when some of us change brands we are all over the place. So T3 is different to T4 in that it is 3 times more potent so that although my question may seem silly to some it’s actually quite a serious question as I’m brand sensitive. I Could of course just experiment and not annoy administrators by asking what they obviously perceived as a stupid question, but as I mentioned that I was brand sensitive I was hoping that someone who has a similar problem may respond and not just someone saying well I don’t have that problem, that’s like someone saying I do really well on T4 alone, IE It doesn’t help. I hope that this explains why I asked my question and I apologise if it has annoyed the administrators but it was meant in good faith and I actually expected something more than a sarky response.

Have a very happy Christmas.

Marty123,

I replied in my capacity as a member, not administrator. Unlike your sarky reply to me, my reply was made in good faith and was not sarky.

in reply to Clutter

yes 10 is less than 12 not sarky at all

HI Marty123,

The answer to your flu question is yes, more T3 is needed by the body when fighting infections.

I think the easiest way to regulate our hormone levels is by body temp. You need to be 37 degrees C for a large part of the day, to ensure enzyme activity is good- optimal 37 to 37.2 - assuming you don't have the flu! :)

Since you take T3 you can easily nudge doses up and down each day until you hit the 'sweet spot'. Heat equals energy. Overheating equals hyperthyroidism (or back to the flu again)

:)
