Holby City - Total Thyroidectomy

Yes - they really did say a patient is in for a total thyroidectomy (due to a tumour)!

Wonder how it will pan out? Most often the thryoid hormone issues get ignored/dropped whenever they mention thyroid at all.

[ Edited to add: "Holby City" is a weekly medical soap broadcast on BBC television in the UK. ]

I expect they will continue to be ignored and the patient will be told that a little white pill everyday will be a perfect replacement for his/her thyroid gland. Not true, of course, but the producers will have sought guidance from a BTA or BTF 'expert' so that will be the line.

Wonder how much follow up they will do after the operation?

On the other hand perhaps the scriptwriter / producer or someone involved knows what really happens to some people and goes from that angle?

Fruitandnutcase Hope they have a better Endo than most of us have!

At the moment it is looking like there might be an issue in the theatre...

Oh no - operation fine. Sitting up in bed, talking, and with the most pathetic bit of gauze on his neck. Not like Tamzin's impressive steristrip job. :-)

Missed it. Will watch it on Catch up tomorrow. Oh yes, I'll have to compare my steri strips.

Richard Chamberlain was sooo lush when he was young. I was gutted when I found out he was gay... I do have a relative who's a junior radiographer whom I call 'Dr Kildare' and roll my eyes when he isn't here...what a tool he is when he is here... :D

It's a telly programme Angel - it's not real - did you know ? :D

Never seen it. Watched Casualty years ago a couple of times when they had a nurse called Charlie. Prefer Red Dwarf - that's real, you know.

For those not aware:

Casualty is another hospital-based soap based in the Accident and Emergency department (ER) in the very same hospital as Holby City. There is some crossover with the odd character from one being mentioned in the other, even sometimes appearing for a brief role.

It too is broadcast on BBC television in the UK.

Does the H stand for Hypothyroid, Hyperthyroid or Hologram? :-) :-) :-)

The amount of notice my GP takes I might as well be a hologram - hard light or otherwise.
