Well, it will often fluctuate on its own a bit so your levels may periodically go back in range depending on how underactive you are. Do you have antibodies (Hashimoto's disease)? If so, that will not go away and it is likely you will become increasingly symptomatic over time.

How do you feel?

I feel fine but I do lack energy...

You may find that thyroxine helps with that. :-)

You need to recognise that 'medication' is in fact replacement or additional hormone to replace what your thyroid isn't producing. If you have autoimmune hypothyroid your thyroid will slowly be destroyed and you will need replacement hormone, medication for life. Have you had your thyroid antibodies measured? If you have thyroid function blood results if you post them on this site with the ranges, the numbers in brackets, some of the more knowledgeable members here will be able to offer more advice. Goodluck luck.

I personally think it is better to spot the condition and go from there, than not having it spotted for years and years...

I have been on medication for over 60 yrs and have been told it is for life. Think I might have been born with a under active thyroid but it was not picked up for several years. You are lucky it has been picked up. And with regular blood tests it can be controlled, best of luck.

Look on the bright side, if you are in the UK once you have been prescribed Thyroxine you never have to pay for another prescription in your life!
