I went for a scan and the said that my thyroid was small i not sure if that's a good thing or not can anyone help i would be grateful

Hi, my recent scan showed that my thyroid gland has shrunk quite a lot. I had RAi treatment twice within 14 months of each other over 20 odd years ago. I have Hashimotos now and was Hyperactive back then I only discovered that I had Hashi's a year ago because of help and advice I received here. Are you on Thyroid meds at all? x

I am on 50g of Levothyroxine I was on 75g and cut down to 50g at the start of August . I am just waiting for a letter from the hospital with the results of my scan

Hi Jan, Not sure what's going on with your gland sorry, but I believe the RAi treatments I had, have caused mine to be slowly disappearing over the years. I believe some people have a faster response to this treatment? I wasn't given any medication for many years and then 25mcg for 5 years! (wiser now) leading up to last September. I was so ill and couldn't function when I found this forum. With advice I have cut out Gluten (year on now),one of my many supplements is Selenium and my antibodies are lowering. Have you been checked for Hashimotos? If I had been informed that I had it, I would have cut out the Gluten way back. Post your results when you get them because someone on here will be able to help. I am guessing here, but I would say it was a good thing, because when the thyroid is under pressure, it swells. This swelling goes when you are on the correct medication. The main thing is how do you feel?
