What are the pros/cons of having a thyroid imaging scan with radioactive iodine? Does it make you feel ill afterwards?

Radioactive iodine
I had it done 2 months ago. No side affects at all. First appointment in am, was given pill to swallow, told to come back in 4 hours, had scan upon return. Next day had to go again (24 hours later) and they redo the scan. Completely painless, no side affects at all.
I had a huge reaction - so bad in fact they had to get the heart team in! I came out in a rash all over. Turns out I am allergic to iodine. Very rare, but worth a patch test first? I dont mean to scare you, and I am sure it will be fine, but just think if you have had iodine wiped on a wound and reacted at all.
Had this done in March and RAI in May, no side effects at all.
Thank you all for your replies, I'm sorry you had such a bad reaction Serenfach!
I had radio active treatment in May and after initial weight gain everything settled well. However I had a lot of hair loss so much that sea kelp supplement was recommended by a hairdresser. I have been feeling rather headachy recently and of course read the tablet box and I hadn't realised it was a thyroid supplement Would be over doing the iodine then. Any advice please
