Gp surgery just let me know final bloods are in
Thyroglobulin (never heard of it) 78 (1.6 -60) high.
Conclusion continue on 25 levo - hypothyroidism...does anyone know what does the above levels indicate. Sigh which gp was more open about this

grainne_foss Thyroglobulin are TG antibodies. Yours are high so positive for autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's. From your previous posts it seems as though your Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO) are also high so it already had been suggested to you that you had Hashi's. Hashi's isn't treated, it's the resulting hypothyroidism that is treated.
You should adopt a strict gluten free diet. Gluten contains gliadin (a protein) which is thought to trigger autoimmune attacks so eliminating gluten can help reduce these attacks. Many members find this helps enormously. Also, supplementing with selenium and keeping TSH suppressed reduces the attacks. I would push for an increase in your Levo to 50mcg for now to see if you can get your TSH right down.

Are you doing anything about testing the vitamins and minerals as was suggested? These need to be optimal for your thyroid hormone to work properly.
GF,
Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a protein found in thyroid cells and and a precursor of thyroid hormones, produced when thyroglobulin's tyrosine combines with iodine and the protein is cleaved.
The test is of limited use except after a patient has had their thyroid gland surgically removed . Small amounts of thyroglobulin are normal in patients with normal thyroid function but can be elevated in people with a goitre, etc and could indicate you are under medicated with thyroid hormone replacement (Levothyroxine).
When we suffer thyroid gland damage (Hashimotos, Graves, etc), we can get thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb) and also thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb). Your previous results show elevated TPOAb denoting Hashi with a low T4 level and elevated ESR levels indicates an inflammatory response. C-reactive Protein is another bio-marker for inflammation but each test needs to be considered within the whole picture.
Have you had Vit B12, Vit D, ferritin and folate tested ? Optimal levels are imperative for good thyroid function and often deficient in people with low thyroid hormone.
For a more comprehensive picture of thyroid function, you will need T3 thyroid hormone testing. This is the active hormone that gives people well being but unfortunately isn't always tested by GP's so members use private labs -link below.
