After having my appt in Aug (have posted that) ... I wanted to ask what duration t3 stays in the blood, as the Endo was trying to stop me having it, because I stated I felt better at about 3 pm after taking tablet at around 7.30 - 8 am... He said my slight improvement in energy couldn't be the t3 as it doesn't stay in your body that long!! Any help or links appreciated 😊 x

How long does t3 stay in the blood please...
Well, it does stay in the body that long - but in the cells, not the blood! Having it in the blood doesn't make you feel well at all. It's the cells that profit from it, and it stays in the cells for a couple of days. Silly man!
Is there any Endos out there that know their stuff!!? Certainly not this one and the one I saw yesterday!! Unbelievable!
For T4, you lose half of it over about a week. For T3 half is lost over a day.
This is an excerpt:
As a result, a single dose of T3 will be long gone from the patient's system before he or she experiences most of the benefits of that dose—a molecular and metabolic yield that may smoothly spread out over one to three days. The "rocky road" ( August 7, 2001

This was an interesting question from scorpiojo as I have just had a reply from my private endo as I told him I had changed my whole dose of T3 to the morning (6am) when I take my T4 as I find it more convenient than taking late afternoon/early evening. I knew I had read on this forum about people who take the whole dose in the morning and why. I received this reply yesterday:
Taking the whole dose once-a-day is not optimal because the T3 only lasts a few hours. Some people take it three times a day and others twice a day but I do not think it is best for you to take it once in the day.
I have just read your link to Dr Lowe, I wonder if I should quote but I don't want to antagonise him!
He is either incompetent or lying.
Hi there....I had this discussion at my Endo's clinic this week whilst trying to establish what they feel with regard to the taking of medication on the day that you go for a blood test( I never take mine until after the blood test)
They don't mind whether you take it or not as long as you keep to the same routine every time and don't eat as we know for 1 hour after taking it.
It was said that the Levo T4 is constant ,however,T3 peaks 2 hours after taking and it's full life lasts 6 hours after which it's half life takes over.
So if you take it early in the morning that is why many patients report less energy in the afternoon.
Sadly, that is why he wanted to take it away as it helps me not feel so tired at 3 but it does start to tail off at tea time... I think I should of said by 3 I feel like I have had a better day, and realise about 3.... What should of happened is a plan of finding out what's going on.. I feel my appt was all about keeping the t3 struggle, rather than him saying, hmmm ok let's see if this or that test shows you have this or that as you are not feeling as well as you should... And I want to really know and treat and sort you out!!!
On a previous thyroid clinic visit my Endo asked me why I take my T3 so early?( 6.15am as I eat breakfast at approx 7.15am) He said that in that case on days when I want to be more active in the afternoon I should take a little extra.I 've not actually done it but it does make sense doesn't it? The registrar that I saw this visit did say that they are getting more patients reporting that their T 3 is no longer being prescribed.I had been taking Armour for the past year but found that it was difficult to adjust my dose as T4/T3 is all in one tablet and you don't necessarily want to adjust both!!
Well, we can and I have bought it from Greece, but it's not ideal! Or may not always be available or affordable then what do we all do...? Because I don't want to face that problem I really would like to see more outrage and protests... They are highlighting ivf on the news.. Sorry, but t3 is more needed as we are already on the planet... They can adopt.. Grrr
I take a 15mcg dose of T3 at 6am, then a 10mcg dose at 11.30am and a final dose of 15mcg at 4.30pm, with a further 25mcg T4 at midnight and that keeps me trundling along quite nicely during the day and gives me a decent night's sleep.
