This is good news. Hopefully T3 should be procured by the NHS at a much fairer price. See link.

Is T3 on the list of the 32 drugs? Is there anywhere one can see the list?

Hi, I can't find the original post when this story broke on the 3rd June, but I'm pretty sure T3 was one of the 32.

However the legislation is NOT about which drugs are involved. That won't matter.

You might like to see diogenes post on this subject, where jimh111 has posted links to a couple of government websites with more info.

And I agree with SlowDragon : I'd be very surprised if they forced the price back down.

They don't need to force the price back down just buy from Aventis or Greek Pharma. When they don't have a monopoly or a market they will have to reduce price. These drugs are all generic so many companies will be manufacturing. Still in EU, costs very little to licence a Pharma product already liscensed in a member country. As said in a previous post I asked Aventis why they weren't selling in the UK. Maybe the NHS should be asking to buy from them.

Did you get a reply? I can't find one on your profile.

From Aventis. Yes, they said they were not planning to sell in the UK at that time. Probably not worth while since MercuryPhama have a monopoly situation going on, which incidentally should never have been allowed to happen.

I'm sorry, after all your work, that you had such a disappointing response.

The Health Service Medical Supplies (Costs) Bill factsheet, explains what the government are planning. It doesn't seem to have anything on monopolies. It seems that where market forces are not in play, prices can be limited by law. And my apologies, on first reading I missed where it states "The Bill...would enable the government to require companies to reduce the price of a generic medicine..."

Crabapple it was the reply I expected. Whilst I would have loved Aventis to come ploughing into the market like our knight in shining armour I knew they wouldn't or couldn't, not quite sure which. MercuryPharma have a monopoly not only on T3 but many other drugs. This should be investigated and those people who allowed this situation to occur should be identified and held accountable. All filed and squared away you never know what info you need for a rainy day!

I wouldn't get your hopes up as Jeremy Hunt is going to take advice from the Royal College and as we know the Royal College of Physicians doesn't support the use of t3. I think the battle will need to continue.

Well let's all start writing to Jeremy I most certainly am and will send a copy of my genetic results for good measure.

Hi cjrsquared, where did you get that info from I Was going to Write to Jeremy Hunt/Sarah Wolloston and ask whether the NHS is going to buy T3 and any of the 32 other Pharms mentioned from Aventhis/Greek Pharma or indeed any other Pharma at best price in the meantime.

Would like to read article as will also add view about RCP, their unsupportive attitude to T3. Obviously non of them have thyroid issues that rely on T3, their view would be very different if they did. So I do not think they are qualified to make a decision on what meds I need just because theory and reality are not in sync. Will also advise class action if T3 withdrawn.

It will almost certainly only apply going forward and not retrospectively.
