Do you suffer from problems connected with your thyroid?
Just wondering, what's an FNI? And I'm a little confused as to what you are asking? Not that it's necessary to explain, but I'd like to fill in the gaps in my understanding!
Fine needle insertion, this was done for a biopsy which came back as inconclusive on my thyroid. As I understand the levels of cancer are 1 - 5 and I'm at level 3 so they are going to remove the half that I have the tumour on, this will then be looked at. On further investigation I have noticed that in most cases a further FNI is usually done later to be clear on diagnosis, so I'm a little confused and worried that my consultant has decided to do this straight off.
Ah, I get you. As far as I know, different consultants use similar methodologies in slightly different ways. It's easy for me to say to you don't drive yourself too nuts over this. It's scary enough as it is without imaging the worst. What might help would be to get an appointment with the consultant, in person or on the phone, and have a list of the questions you want answered in order to at least know exactly his modus operandi, and take it from there.
It's the worrying that makes everything so much more distressing.
My daughter had exactly the same FNI result and was recommended surgery. Pre surgery my daughter's only issue was swollen neck and anxiety. I was assured that surgery was important and that there was only a one in twenty chance she would develop thyroid problems and that would only be years down the road.
Unfortunately only 4 months post hemi thyroidectomy she developed under active thyroid. Now on levo but struggling.
I have such mixed feelings about the surgery; without it we would worry it was cancerous but as things are now I wish I could turn the clock back and put off surgery.
I'm sorry I can't help in your decision but wanted to share what's happened to my daughter.
I hope everything turns out well for you.
Thank you, I already had my diagnosis for underactive thyroid but the doctor felt my symptoms didn't fit he also couldn't find the lump in my neck and made me feel I was wasting his time. So all this is a little bit of a shock for me , and a little hard for me to get my head round at the moment.
I understand the shock, I was too when surgery was recommended. We got a second opinion using the two week cancer rule. All test results were passed to the second Endo who immediately agreed surgery was the only option.
How soon do they want to do surgery?
I'm going on holiday October 29th for 6 days so my consultant has said he is not too worried if it's done when I come back but if he can get in in before he will so it's in limbo at the moment. I do know that the airline will not let me fly two weeks after an operation so that will have to be taken into account. I would rather wait and have it done when I get back to be honest.
