Well sometimes this is true, but sadly this may NOT be the case, and we need to look much deeper.

I'm hoping this thread gets more comments. The Lyme-ME/CFS/Fibro connection is one that's not easy to follow up on. I've not yet found adequate testing for Lyme in the UK so if anyone has any information about that, it would be great to hear. Thought I'd bump this link

Pamanda - CaudwellLyme charity know there is a connection between Lyme and thyroid, have a read here:

My blood was sent to the USA for comprehensive testing, not cheap but better than arguing with the NHS. There's been an increasing number of hypo folk on here who've been diagnosed with Lyme.

Pamanda, my daughter was tested at the lab mentioned in the article (igenex.com/Website/). They can also test the tick if you find one on your body. Unfortunately there are no reliable tests for Lyme co-infections as there are at least 100 variations each of both Bartonella and Babesia let alone all the other co-infections. There is another lab in the USA that will check if they can grow the Lyme (Borrelia) bacteria from a blood sample confirming if it is in your body in one of its forms. Some British people have been tested at a lab in Germany. Sadly NHS tests are unreliable and treatment inadequate. At the same time you should also be tested for Mycotoxin illness, various chronic viruses including EBV, HHV6 and cytomegalovirus, as well as candida as these can all be involved and cause a complex health problem resulting in a chronic inflammatory response that can play havoc with every cell in the body including of course your thyroid function. Sadly the link between these chronic infections and thyroid illness is not recognised in the UK which I find negligent in the extreme and it is necessary to travel to the USA for knowledgeable and expert help. You may find this site helpful. lymediseaseuk.com/about-us/ It was started by two Lyme sufferers, both of whom, like my daughter have had to travel to the USA for help, but who wanted to make information available for sufferers in the UK. Here's what Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, a long term colleague of Dr. Nathan and advisor to Thyroid UK, has said about this excellent little Kindle book. I urge anyone still looking for answers to their thyroid problems to read it. The treatments within its pages saved my daughter's life after many years of pursuing solely the thyroid route - "WOW! As a CFS and Fibromyalgia specialist and author, I know many of the key experts in the field. Dr Nathan is one of the very best. He has integrated the very complex mold work of Dr Ritchie Shoemaker, and distilled it down to an easy to read and understandable approach that gives you what you need to get started now. Loved the book so much, I will be beginning his protocol in several of my patients soon. I highly recommend this book for both health practitioners as well as anyone who has a poorly understood illness. Outstanding!!!" Jane x
