Ayorkor,

The makers of Synthroid claim their product is more stable than generics, but then they would, wouldn't they?

If you aren't satisfied with the generic you are currently using switch to another to see whether you do better or try Synthroid.

In the UK we have the option of 3 generics, there are no brands available to us.

I don't know where you are, but the issue seems to be staying on the same make continuously.

Makes other than Synthroid, such as Unithroid (also sold as "generic" Lannett), are, according to reports, fine. Changing every time you go to the pharmacy is not a good idea. Let us not forget that Synthroid has had plenty of recalls over the years.

The makers of Synthroid manage to instill fear, uncertainty and doubt in patients and in medics, which is intended to ensure you demand Synthroid and stay on Synthroid. Quite high pressure marketing which is necessary because their product is so highly priced.

I was under the impression that Synthroid had a higher marketing budget, and that is the only reason it stays on top.

You could also find out if your doctor is paid to promote Synthroid (or any other drug) to his/her patients using this website :

Human bean, I clicked the link, it only lists Dr's in USA, state by state. As for the drug companies yes it shows how much they spent in millions of $. So for those who don't live in the States, not too relevant to us. I didn't delve any farther than seeing that.

Yes, I know it is a US website. But any member asking questions about Synthroid is almost certainly from the US, so the link is (probably) relevant for them.

Thanks Humanbean, I wasn't aware of that, as I only take Levothyrox, to name it as on box, and all Merck Serono .sante s.a.s is in France apparently where I am. mind you I bet they and my Dr are no different In practice!
