Can anyone with graves please share your treatments. I see my specialist again in 3 weeks. She has recommended the block and suppress but asked me to get others ideas too. Thanks in advance. X

Everyone is different, you have to find out what works for you by trial and error. I took Carbimazole many times but could never maintain levels or remission, tried block and replace but it didn't work either, to many dose changes. I had surgery then years later RAI.

I was on anti thyroid meds for 18 months (although had to change from carbimazole to ptu as I was possibly allergic to the former as I broke out in hives). Anyway, all has gone smoothly so far. Felt miles better very quickly although my bloods showed I became hypo for a while. However, my ptu dose was gradually reduced until I came off it completely and I've now been ten months without needing treatment. RAI has been recommended to me should I relapse in future. Block and suppress worked a charm for me. Best wishes.

Thank you for your reply. I'm wondering if I'm having some reaction to it because I'm so itchy all over it feels like little insects on my skin. Think I'll ring her Monday just to make sure it's nothing to worry about. Not that I worry x

Yes, could check with a gp. My hives appeared about 4 weeks after starting the carbimazole. They were fiery red, intensely itchy, unsightly and covered my arms and legs mostly. They could have been caused by the carbimazole or to the change in my thyroid levels or been been unrelated to anything to do with my thyroid, although the latter seems unlikely. The endocrinologist did not want to risk that it was an adverse drug reaction and so I was switched to the drug ptu. No hives and smooth sailing since!
