You need to go to your GP with a COPY of the results and request that they treat your:

1. Severely low vitamin D level

2. Low vitamin B12 level

3. Refer you to an endo for your TSH level

Depending on the bloody mindedness of the doctor they may say you have to have all tests repeated first. If you do make sure you have them after fasting the night before, not taking levo for that morning/evening before and first thing in the morning to ensure your TSH level is at the highest.

If the GP refuses to treat you or test you, and you happen to feel very ill a few days later then ensure someone takes you to A&E in their car/a taxi. Tell the emergency doctor the bad symptoms you are having linked to all your conditions and also show him/her any physical signs you have like hair loss, brittle nails, horizontal lines in nails etc.

Good grief! Your results are awful! Can you still walk?

Your ferritin is very low and would be better at around 80 - 100.

Your vitamin D is very low and should be around 100.

Your vitamin B12 is so low I think you need to be tested for pernicious anaemia (PA). It needs to be around 1000. Don't start supplementing B12 until you have been tested for PA. I would say you urgently need injections. For more info on PA you should join another community here on HealthUnlocked - the PA Society. You'll find them here :

healthunlocked.com/pasoc

(You can join/follow as many communities as you want.)

Your folate is within range but is also very low, and needs to be closer to 25 or over.

Your results are so awful I'm wondering if you take antacids? or acid blockers?

Hi Humanbean

thx for reply I take lansoprazole have done for many years, I feel like a zombie

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toLucieb01

Lansoprazole is a PPI - Proton Pump Inhibitor. They are intended for short term use, but doctors have used such pills for years for treating indigestion and acid reflux.

The problem is that most indigestion is actually caused by people having too little stomach acid not too much. Low stomach acid is a common symptom for people with hypothyroidism. I know it sounds bizarre and unlikely when your stomach burns so much with indigestion, but people usually feel better when they ADD acid to the gut, rather than suppress it.

These are some links that might help explain things. Probably best to leave them until tomorrow - it's a lot of reading!

The first set of links are fairly short and to the point, the second set are more long-winded :

Don't rush into making any changes. It can be difficult to wean off PPIs after you've been on them for years, so perhaps ask for advice from people who've done it already. Write a new post specifically about that.

well the ppi's are not working now when I eat it comes back and the burning is bad I will put up another post thx so much

Fruitandnutcase in reply toLucieb01

If it's any help I was given PPIs ( Omeprazole) but I wasn't keen on taking them long term - I seemed to have an unlimited supply of the things!

I discovered that when I went totally gluten free to try and reduce my antibodies, stopped eating chocolate, I ate a lot of it and cut out junk food and fizzy drinks I was able to stop the PPIs without any problem. Totally altering my diet very quickly cured my acid reflux problem.

It probably depends on why you were given them in the first place though.

humanbean in reply toFruitandnutcase

I got some benefit (for my gut) from going gluten free. But I must admit the biggest help came from giving up my ice cream, sweetie, and chocolate habit. It took me a long time though - I'm a real sugar addict.

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply tohumanbean

Me too. I used to buy my fruit and nut chocolate two bars at a time. Eat one as I was driving round the corner - literally! Then I'd have the other one with a cup of coffee when I got into the house. Dreadful really. Apart from the very odd square of very dark chocolate I've not had chocolate for nearly a year. Total record for me. I don't think you can go wrong if you give up sugar so well done for giving it all up.

I also wanted to say, make an appointment with your doctor (or a doctor, since yours appears to be useless) before you start making any changes and supplementing. You never know, you might get some real help - although I wouldn't hold my breath. But you need to give the medical profession a chance to see how they react to your results.

I read your earlier post where you mentioned that you didn't have a thyroid. I don't know how you are managing to survive with your thyroid results.

One of the antibody results is positive. Although I can't actually read the result I can see it is in red. It looks as though it might say 39.5, but I could be wrong. I'm a bit puzzled about that, because I'm not sure what it means in a person who had their thyroid removed over 30 years ago. Did you by any chance have Graves' Disease?

labtestsonline.org.uk/under...

Your TSH being so high indicates you are seriously under-medicated or are not absorbing the medication you are on.

Your low Free T4 and Free T3 just confirm the high TSH - again it shows you are seriously under-medicated or are not absorbing the medication you are on.

It all suggests to me that your gut is in a very bad way, since everything is so low. What kind of diet do you eat?

Also, I suspect you are on completely the wrong dose of thyroid meds, and you need some T3 added to your levo, or a change away from levo altogether. But whether you would get your doctor to agree is another matter. I don't know if you are aware of this, but it is possible to buy thyroid meds of different kinds on the internet without a prescription. Quite a few people on the forum do.

Jazzw profile image
Jazzw in reply toLucieb01

We will advise about how to self medicate of course - but go to your doctor first, because if he doesn't treat you for hypothyroidism and get you tested for pernicious anaemia he needs striking off the GMC register!! In your earlier posts here at HU I see you've mentioned lupus?

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toLucieb01

Yes those are the ones I meant. I couldn't read the 89.4. Did you have Graves's Disease?

You can write a post asking for people to send you links to trustworthy sites where you can buy NDT or T3. But you will have to walk before you can run. Taking either with a gut which doesn't absorb, and with such low nutrient results could make them hard to tolerate. I would definitely recommend working on getting your gut working again and getting your nutrients up first. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your GP will actually DO something useful!

I do hope Blue Horizon have written something useful that will put a rocket up your GP's bum.

But again I have to stress, don't supplement until you have seen what your GP is going to do, and make sure you insist on testing for Pernicious Anaemia. And join the PA Society community so that you know what blood tests to ask for.

There is a good book which explains how the thyroid works very well :

amazon.co.uk/Your-Thyroid-H...

It will probably take several readings for it to sink in, particularly if your brain isn't working very well - brain fog is a huge problem when nutrients are not optimal and you are under-medicated or poorly medicated.

Lucieb01 profile image
Lucieb01 in reply tohumanbean

yes I did have graves and BH gave me a letter for gp good one straight to the poin and yes the brain fog is a prob

Lucieb01 profile image

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toLucieb01

I've never heard of that before.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undif...

Just looked it up ^^^ and notice it mentions severe vitamin D deficiency as a common symptom, and you quite definitely have that!

Good luck. Let us all know how it goes. It would be a good idea to start a new post when you do.

Lucieb01 in reply toLucieb01

I will let you know what gp says

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply toLucieb01

lucie, many of these side issues are all related to your thyroid. Why oh why don't they fix your thyroid first and see other problems go away. Or fix whatever is harming your thyroid production. They really don't care to look below the surface but you can.

Ask the GP to test for coeliac disease too. That can cause absorption problems and it's another autoimmune disease so more likely if you've already got an autoimmune disease x
