Hi, I have an under active thyroid & take 125/150 levo alternate days. Also type 2 diabetes, bloated tummy etc. I asked my doctor if I could be referred to an endocrinologist but he told me that they don't do that until they can't do anymore. Has anyone else been told this? I was diagnosed May 2014.

Hi, After more than 20 years since last seeing an Endo and me feeling really ill thanks to lack of proper care etc, I ask to see one again. I sat and cried at the GP and told him that I insist on seeing an Endo. He did eventually agree. This was last Autumn, I have had 3 appointments since and was going to be discharged at the last one. I ask if I could have one more future appointment and the lovely Doctor agreed but for in 6 months time. I have improved my health since asking for that first appointment and this was with the advice on this forum. My last appointment was with Dr (name removed by Admin - guideline No.23) at Heartlands Hospital Birmingham. I tried to get a private appointment with this gentleman last year at the Priory Solihull, he was absent due to health issues at the time. My bonus that I saw him at my last appointment( he does NHS appointments at Heartlands). Don't give up this is important to you go back and ask again. I told my own GP that I don't care what my TSH is (it was 4.9 then) and that I know how ill I am. It's worth another try.
Best Wishes I hope you get some joy. x
Thanks Mango_555, it's so difficult to get the right treatment never mind a diagnosis. I'm being treated for type 2 diabetes, dry skin & eyes, hip pain I could go on when all I need is the correct treatment for thyroid, aarrrggh !!!
I know and it's annoying, I've had years of it along with many others on this forum. But I always say 'Get them boxing gloves on and fight back!' x
What rubbish. You can be referred to an endo at any time he/she is the specialist NOT the GP. If your GP doesn't agree then sack him and get another who does!
After 18 months asking my GP to refer me to an endo, in the end, I wrote a letter, with help from friends. The letter worked, I have an appointment to see and endo, if you'd like to see what I wrote let me know and I'll paste it into a reply.
