Thyroid dilemma

I have to see my doc on Monday when he is back from leave after 3 weeks. If he agrees I need a thyroid test ,I will the probably wait a week before having and then at least another two weeks to see him again. In the I have all the thyroid symptoms and worse ,it's not surprising that we are fed up with doctors!

I shall give you a list of clinical symptoms you can tick.

Ask for a full Thyroid Function Test (probably wont but ask anyway). That's TSH, T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3. also ask for B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate and thyroid antibodies.

Also tell him as you feel so unwell you want to exclude thyroid problems altogether.

The blood test should be the very earliest possible and fast although you can drink water. If you're on levothyroxine you leave 24 hours between the last dose and the test and take it afterwards. You should also take it with one full glass of water and wait around an hour before taking any food. Food can interfere with the up-take of hormones.

Get a print-out each time (some charge a nominal sum) and make sure ranges are stated and post on a new question.
