I was wondering if anybody had any experience with taking Carbimazole? Since starting my course with these I have noticed I've been feeling down and out of loop with myself to a point where I just dont want to be around other people or do anything? Could someone help me?

Thanks x

I have been on carbimazole for 12 months and I have been moody , snappy and also felt low at times but that comes and goes . I have Graves Disease .

I felt like I couldn't cope with kids and just life in general and was very anxious and agitated but that has massively improved , wish I could be more helpful .

Yes I felt like that for over a year..didn't realise until they stopped med and have me radio iodine treatment instead! I was also vile. Partner nearly walked out after 19 years!.... GP then informed me they are designed to poison everything which is why u feel so awful. It's basically a poison. Thankfully 4 years later...dead thyroid and feel much better... hope u can get off them soon.

I'm glad I read this post, am on carbimazole as well, Caroline 1960s reply about it being like a poison explains how I have been feeling.

I am back on carbimazole tablets again for hyperactive thyroid condition after a

few months of remission. I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones as I haven't

experienced any of the nasty side effects that many others suffer.

Megan I am sorry that you are feeling so down and hope that you feel better soon. xxx

I've been on it for a year and it seems to have stopped all the moods, which were apparently because I was so hyperactive before, but I went very underactive 3-4 weeks after I started. It's supposed to take 8 weeks to kick in but in my experience it was much quicker. I have only felt really well for about a week, which was my 3rd week in before going under! Weight gain and bloating is the absolute worst, despite eating very, very little and on the go all the time...

Further to my post above, got a letter from Endo this morning and my TSH/T4/3 have improved and 2 are within normal range other just out, so I was told to take half dose prescribed which I did, not sure it's just in my head but I feel more cheerful and haven't cried or felt depressed this morning.

I felt OK on it. I started on 20 mcg a day for a month and it didn't make much difference I was then given 40mcg a day for two months. The first month I was pretty grumpy, short tempered, tearful and generally a misery. Once I was on 40mcg a day I got a bit better and once I saw the endo and was started on thyroxine as well - I was treated by block and replace- I got a lot better mood wise.I would say I was lucky because I got on well with it. It took a while to get up to the right level (for me) of Levo plus carb but I felt well when I was taking it and I stopped snarling at anyone who got in my way. Have to say in the beginning I was probably pretty difficult to be around.
