My last TSH 26.6: Can anybody tell me why my TSH... - Thyroid UK
My last TSH 26.6
Two reasons, your thyroid is failing fast probably due to autoimmune attacks and your levo is not keeping up with the necessary amount of hormone that your body needs. You must feel pretty awful. You may end up on 150 mcgs. of levo but you need to start increases in smaller increments to get there.
I have by cutting tablets in harf seem to be working taking it very slowly. But it's going to be a very slow recovery for me I have managed to get to 75mg and that is good for me the last time I was on 75mg I was very hyper and feeling terrible. But at the moment feeling OK but not hat my best hope fully one day I will
I'm glad you explained that. I had the same problem one time. You might think about giving your adrenals some support. Your glands need some nutritional support and I would urge you to take 1000 mgs. of vitamin C in one or two parts and also magnesium glycinate. Stress uses up magnesium. Then if you like licorice tea and/or capsule and Siberian Ginseng. Those both spur the adrenal glands as long as they aren't too weak. Cortisol may be the problem you feel hyper on 75 mcg. of Levo and that is an adrenal issue. Do you feel dizzy often or weak? Your adrenals control blood pressure so help your adrenals if they need it.

Thank you for your help yes I do get dizziness some times like standing up.And seem to be constipation a lot to for the last week and and start to get tired about 3.00 but do feel better that I did before now I am taking levo slowly.Going to ask doctor in about 2 weeks when I have a blood test if he give me a full testimonial not just the TSH test where do I get the vitamin from a chemists and the the other stuff from never have taken vitamins before or anything.I am cup of tea mad to and I guess tea is no good for me any where thanks for your help any more information would be a great help
Scroll down in this article where it talks about low cortisol symptoms. Your adrenal glands have to produce cortisol, enough to wake you up in the morning and then lowers slowly throughout the day until night time at it's lowest point and that allows you to fall asleep at night. You need to get outdoors and daylight to make melatonin which also helps you sleep. You need good sleep to rest your adrenals. drsaulmarcus.com/fatigue/ad...
I order supplements from iHerb.com but many order from Amazon.com as well.
You should consider vitamin C, magnesium glycinate, coconut oil and perhaps vitamin D. If you find out you have a B12 problem, almost everyone is deficient in that as well and then you need methylfolate to take with it.
When I get vitamins can I take them all together or separately like vitamin c and vitamin D
And magnesium how to take thank you
I take most of mine with breakfast or lunch and some come in liquid form and vitamin c can come in powdered form so I put them in a juice and drink when possible. You should get vitamin D3 with K2 for best results. B12 should be methylcobalamin and taken under the tongue anytime so it by passes the stomach. Other B vitamins could be combined in one tablet.
If you need to take iron or calcium, they will interfere with your thyroid pill and it's usually on the package so those need to be taken four hours before or after your thyroid pill.
If you take fish oil or vitamin E, best to take those with an oily meal.
Gary, some companies are better than others but there are many good ones.
Just been on Amazon and found this Thyroid Energy by joy spring. There have everything in them for underatctive thyroid just wondering if there any good customer reviews look good 5 stars 76% but what I do not understand if I take my levo has well has the thyroid energy.Just thinking you could advise me please
Thank you
That, I do not know Gary. I've watched many videos about the thyroid but don't recall recommendations for a support pill when already taking hormone replacement. Selenium is very important and your body needs all the minerals but there is a lot of controversy with taking iodine which is what your levo is producing.
There are lots of topics for you to look at from Stop the Thyroid Madness.
Have you been tested for Hashimotos by any chance?
No not been tested for hashimoto doctor just told me my thyroid was high and start me on thyroxine he did start me on 25mg then 50mg then 75mg last 100mg and that when all the went to he'll in my body it was that bad i used to think will I make it to the next day and thought it is was going to feel like this I would rather be dead. Then I stop my medication and with in 48 hours I felt lots better. And doctor was not happy I had stop mediation so started back on 25mg and then found this site and with the help of kind people I seem to be doing better with my medication there told me to increase my medication slowly and not to eat or drink couple of hours before or after taking my medication and it seems to be working better for me
Has your doctor tested for antibodies - TPO AND TG - this will tell you if you have autoimmune thyroid - called Hashimoto's.
Also need to check Vit D, B12, Folate and ferritin. These all need to be be at good levels for thyroid hormones to work. They are often low with thyroid issues, due to number of possible reasons. Gluten intolerance (don't have to have any gut symptoms) can cause poor uptake of nutrients and/or due to low stomach acid.
Many of us here have resorted to private blood tests to work out what is going on. Assuming you are in UK - thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
I personally use Blue Horizon plus eleven as this includes Vitamin D test too.
If you can afford to get these done - then repost with full results and members can advise
As others have said, when you increase dose of thyroxine it has to be done slowly for body to get use to, otherwise you get hyper type symptoms.
Your GP seems to not understand thyroid - can you see another GP asap and get referral to an endocrinologist specialising in thyroid (not diabetes as most of them are)
Thyroid UK has list of good endo's or thyroid specialists here in UK
Yes I got good advice of here to take my medication slowly and that is what I have been doing for the past 3 weeks now from 50mg I have managed to get to 70mg by cutting 25mg and taking 50mg so by next week be on 75mg and feel ok no hyper simton yet.And plus taking my medication the right way no food or drink while taking mediation before or after for a few hours.I will try asking doctor first for full blood test if he says no will get it done private.Just seem to be constipation a lot and pee a lot to when I eat belly rumbles a lot and get tie has day go's on.But do feel a lot better than been hyper
Gary, some people take their Levo at night so if you haven't had any food at bedtime, it will be easier to work around any other supplements and between meals. When you take your next tests for thyroid, be sure not to take your pill within twelve hours of the test and take the test as early in the morning as you can. This will give a better rating of what is going on.
Why hasn't your doctor raised your thyroxine in response to such high tsh results? Optimal around 1.0 they should be onto it!
He did raise my thyroxine but just made me very ill got chest pains dizziness e.c.t I am on 70mg feeling a lot better I been uping my medication very slowly
Sounds like t4 Levo doesn't suit you if you have that reaction. Have you tried NDT or some t3 as well as the t4? That might get your tsh down without making you I'll. You just can't tell til you've tried these things.
