If you haven't had any blood tests then request them. If you feel like your doctor isn't or won't listen to you then get your partner to accompany you to an appointment.
Terence,
I had a bipolar diagnosis in my teens, decades before I became hypothyroid. I was able to stop Lithium after 5 years and have managed on and off antidepressants with long periods of remission since then. Developing thyroid problems was very destabilising and I misdiagnosed myself as having a bipolar episode for almost a year before I saw my GP. I was able to stop taking antidepressants 2.5 years ago after my thyroid medication was optimised.
I have been reading a while ago that Bipolar, Baby Blues, Autism, Depression Tourettes and probably more, those people often have 'low thyroid' hormones also known as low Free T4 and low Free T3. Sorry I have no links, but maybe you could do some googling yourself. It is all new stuff out. Some Doctors were starting to treat some depression with T3 (Thyroid medication.) As T3 worked better and faster for some than other depression medications, I have been reading, though now T3 has become extremely expensive and has been withdrawn for many thyroid patients who relied on it, so I am sure it is the same for others with depression too.
FreeT4 & FreeT3 are both measures of Thyroid Hormone.
