50mcg of cyanocobalamin? Probably won't do anything much.

Just for comparison, I take 5000mcg of methylcobalamin most days. I'm not pregnant of course, but I had never heard that B12 was toxic for anyone, even pregnant women, for what that is worth.

Hi nettiboo1982,

Congratulations on you pregnancy,

Last week one of my many sisters was put on 50mcg CCobalamin with a reading of 156.

I ordered what I take for her, which is the same as hb is taking, along with Thorne Basis B Complex.

I can't recommend what you should take n, but really don't think 50mcg will be much use to you.

Have you got a level of B12 with ranges n.

folks on here reckon methylcobalamin is a better form of B12.

Cyanocobalamin is cheaper for the NHS to prescribe but has to convert in the body to the other forms of B12. Did you have a test for B12 before becoming pregnant - you may well have been very low before.

Once you are supplementing further testing is of no value - so do not let your GP re-test and then tell you everything is fine and no more supps required. When you are feeling stronger it may be prudent to look into why you are so low. Are you a vegetarian ?

The above site will tell you everything you need to know about B12D and the further testing that maybe required. It is good that you have been tested - but knowing how to treat patients is something that seems to escape most Docs. You need your levels to be around 1000 or at the very least over 500.

Hope all goes well for you ....

Hello, & congratulations!

I get my B12 from kefir, rather than supplements. 100mls has over 200% RDA of B12. It takes me an hour a week to make, using 2l of organic milk.

Sorry, The Archers, long running radio soap on R4, they have an ongoing kefir story.

I know what the Archers is, but have never listened.

I have my own ongoing kefir story! :)

Since the B12 has dropped since the introduction of your pregnancy vitamins it might be worth considering this. Some companies short-change on the expensive B vitamins and when they are out of balance, ie too much of the cheaper ones, that can deplete one or more of the others.

It might be that you need a better pregnancy supplement, with the B vitamins in their correct proportions.
