Hi, Im new here and just after a little advice. My doctor changed my dose of Levothyroxine from 75mcg to 100mcg on tue. As of yesterday Ive started being really hot and sweaty, also having palpatations for hours. Is this normal? Ive not had this problem in the past with a doseage change.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome Sleepydreamer85 , if these symptoms are just since your increase, then it does sound like you may be overmedicating. You know your body better than anyone else and if an increase has never caused these symptoms before then something is happening. Why don't you reduce by 12.5mcg or just take the extra 25mcg every other day just to see? Do you have your most recent blood results with ranges? It is quite soon after the increase so the symptoms could be under active but if you haven't experienced this before you might be better off reducing a little. Others will advise though but they can't do that unless you post ALL your blood results with ranges in brackets to get the help you need. TSH , T4 and FT3, also Ferritin, Folate and Vitamins B12 and D. Some symptoms can be due to nutritional deficiencies so you need to get these levels tested. Don't worry, there is a lot of good people with a lot of experience here who will help you. Good luck

Hi. Thankyou for your reply. I dont know my levels. I just had up regular blood done, then doc called and said to up it too 100 mcg as its still underactive. Maybe it will be a good idea to find out. I have a B12 problem and have to have the injection every 3 months. Im wondering if I should try taking them at night. I will get hold of the levels tomorrow and come back to you. Thankyou for your advice. ☺

Hi

My doctor started me off at a low level and moved me up 25mcg at a time until I got to 125mcg two years ago. He says I am border line moving up again but is keeping me on this level for a while. My underactive thyroid was diagnosed around 4 years ago and I certainly notice if I forget to take my tablets as I feel very washed out.

I do feel 'hot' sometimes but dont get the palpatations so I think that is something you need to mention to your doctor. It could just be your body adjusting, but it could also be that you are borderline in how much you need to take. My mother-in-law takes 75mcg every other day and 50mcg in between. It's a delicate balance sometimes and can be trial and error to find the correct level of medication. Keep talking to your doctor and they will get it right for you.

I hope it gets sorted as once you are on the correct level you will feel so much better I promise :-)

Symptoms of overmedication are common in the adaptation stage and often settle quickly , it is advisable to know your tsh,ft4 and ft3 as often doctors aren't that knowledgeable with thyroid conditions

I normally go a bit hyper at 3.5 weeks after a dose increase but it settles down again

It is unlikely you are overmedicated as doctors tend to keep our tsh very high through ignorance of the condition but it doesn't hurt to get the results from them that you are entitled to :-)

I got palpitations for a few weeks every time I had an increase of levothyroxine. I was checked out by the GP each time just to be sure, and was reassured that it was just by body getting used to the extra levo. The palpitations always settled down eventually.

I think you are probably getting used to the increase in meds and if that was the case to try every other day and see if things settle. For peace of mind though can you get a copy of your results and post them with the ranges so that we can comment on them?

Ok so i have a printout of my last bloods which was 13th may.

T4 level normal 11.3 pmol/L it then has a space and says 10.30-22.70pmol/L

TSH level 10.45 mu/L then a space with 0.35-5.50mu/L

I dont understand that at all lol.
