Welcome to the forum, Spery.
There are three generic Levothyroxine makes available via NHS:
Mercury Pharma 25mcg, 50mcg and 100mcg
Actavis 50mcg and 100mcg
Wockhardt 25mcg
The prescription will be for Levothyroxine and the pharmacist will dispense one of the above. You are entitled to ask the pharmacist to dispense the make which you prefer if you find one doesn't suit. If the pharmacist refuses ask for the prescription form to be returned and take it elsewhere.
Hi. When in Spain for several months of the year I buy eutirox.in uk I use only Mercury pharma if I run out before I get back to get more eutirox.personally I prefer eutirox not least because it can be split easily whereas Mercury cannot be easily cut.it also to me feels slightly stronger.if you find a brand here hat suits you you can ask GP to stipulate that brand on the prescription and that will be the only one you will get.this of course can be a bit awkward if they don't have any and have to order it in,a wait of a few days usually so best to have some in reserve.otherwisw as clutter says you get whichever brand they have in stock each time.
It is probably better to get a pharmacist to agree to supply your chosen make rather than having your prescription written to name that make. Reason being if anything changes it is a lot easier to handle - for example, withdrawal of a make (as happened with Teva), a new product is launched, or you change your mind.
