Positive pregnancy test and levothyroxine!

I am so emotional as I type this. I can't believe it, I have been taking 25 mcg of levothyroxine for the past 8 days and I have just become pregnant. I don't know if it a coincidence . But I also am very scared of another miscarriage as I've had about 5 or 6 of these. Please don't let this be the 7th.

My question is I'm taking 25 mcg of levothyroxine daily , should I increase it to 50? By taking two pills.

My previous results showed thyroid antibodies of 109 and 2.84 TSH .

Thank you to you all

Oh congratulations orangepie, I'm so pleased for you and have everything crossed for you. xxx

I would contact your endo and see what he says. Also ask your gp. They should monitor your tsh closely now but you will probably need to push for it.

Thank you. Yes I will contact him tomorrow and see my GP. Just not very optimistic about it due to my history. I hope you get your positive test soon xxx

It is so disappointing to miscarry - never mind the amount you've had and it is probably due to undiagnosed hypo (if you hadn't been diagnosed at this time). 25mcg is a very small dose of levo and I'd phone your GP and leave a message that you're increasing to 50 which is also small but you have to do things gradually.

This is a past post which I hope may be helpful.

Congratulations Orangpie!

NICE CKS recommends that Levothyroxine should be increase by 25-50mcg when pregnancy is confirmed so I would increase dose to 50mcg.

Nice guidelines are to have a monitored TSH below 2 when pregnant. However in practice it needs to be below 1and you need to be very insistent because most GPs do not understand the link between hypo and miscarriage.

Please do lots of research and good luck with the pregnancy!
