I only know what makes it worse such as dairy etc, but you probably know that already. Mine gets worse with chocolate:(

This seems to be a common problem with thyroid troubles. I find gargling helps me. You can use salt water, or a bought product from the pharmacy counter. Has your Doctor given you anything as it's infected?

Hi james, normally mucous is a protective device by the body so one of the obvious problems is that stomach acid may be burning the lining of your esophagus. People have GERD or acid reflux which comes up to the throat. If that is what it is, you may have low stomach acid. Contrary to what is publicized unless perhaps if you have overactive thyroid, most people have low acid especially if hypothyroid. It could also be that the sphincter is weak (also due to being hypo) and allows acid to pass through.

After recently reading a little on B12 deficiency I now know that a swollen or dark red tongue or sore mouth can be a symptom so don't know if this includes throat? It may be worth having your B12 checked if you haven't already

Hi just to let you know there is a nasty virus that is going around that is causing throat problems. A sore throat that

can linger for a few weeks is one of the symptoms. Many are left with a cough, but the worst main problem has been the phlem mucus that has been thick and unpleasent, making eating and lying down impossible.

As well as family members having this, I work in a chemist and this has been the main thing people having been comming in asking for advice and treatment for. If you have a thyroid problem your immune system will be compromised and more susceptable to viruses at times.
