What kind of doctor is most helpful to help a Hashimotos patient with digestive and skin problems?
Or is it best to simply get a prescription once a year and find my own way through withholding certain foods for a time then reintroducing to observe reactions?

If you post your thyroid results and ranges (figure in brackets after results) members will advise whether you are optimally medicated which should help with digestive issues caused by low thyroid hormone.
Your GP can do a tissue transglutamine blood test to rule out coeliac disease due to gluten intolerance. However, some people have gluten sensitivity and will benefit from gluten-free diet even if the coeliac screen is negative. 100% gluten-free diet can reduce Hashi symptoms and antibodies.

I would suggest a Functional medicine doctor. Hashimotos is autoimmune, which means the gut is effected..should say, that since over 90% of the immune system is in the gut..the gut is leaky and bad with autoimmune disease. It effects the skin. Mainstream medicine doctors, know none of this. I have acne and horrible reflux and non digesting of food. I was treated by a dermatologist for 1 year with no help and have been to 3 gi doctors. Am seeing a functional medicine doctor for help now.
