I developed terrible anxiety just before my under active thyroid was diagnosed.

Still suffer from it now

Wow! Maybe you have a switched on doctor, we don't hear of many on here!

Get a very early appointment, 8.30am is good, and fast (water to drink is OK). Have brekky when you get back. That should give you the highest possible TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) which is what you need for a diagnosis.

Come back and let us know your results, get a print out (with reference ranges), you are entitled to have them, and members can help if necessary.

Also make sure you have more than the TSH tested. You will also need the FT4 - FT3 and the anti-bodies - Anti-TPO - Anti-TG.

Also you will need optimal levels of B12 - Ferritin - Folate - VitD - so ensure you have those tested too.

Low B12 and the others can also make you feel tired and very down - so it is complicated.

Good luck, hope he accepts that you have a problem if you do. Listen to these on here over what your GP says. Seriously you will soon be very glad you did. You will also be very surprised at how little most GPs know about thyroid disease. Welcome :)

Like you I felt horrible for years but it was put down to the medication I was taking for my spinal problems. I went for a healthy heart check and everything was spot on apart from the blood test revealing my under active thyroid. At first it was borderline then I had to go back for more blood tests 6 months later and the Drs rang me to double my thyroxine tablets. I only go every year now for a blood test.

Glad it's sorted and under control. Do you feel alot better after doubling the thyroxine tablets

I do feel better but not 100% the dosage went from 25mg to 50mg. I don't know how big a dose that is to be honest.
