Welcome to our Forum Corry and I'm glad you have been diagnosed. Many people remain undiagnosed because doctors only take into account the TSH alone for diagnosis instead of Free T4 and Free T3,
It is a big learning curve once we are diagnosed and have to read and learn as much as possible.
You may be one of the lucky ones for whom an optimum of levothyroxine makes them well again.
When first diagnosed and given levothyroxine, you should have a regular blood test about every six to 8 weeks with an increase in levo. The aim is a TSH of around 1 or lower. Many doctors think anywhere in the range (even if at the higher end) is fine. It isn't.
When blood tests are due, it should be the earliest possible and don't eat before. Also allow about 24 hours between your last dose of levo (which should be taken when you get up with a full glass of water and wait about an hour before eating). Take levo after.
Always get a print-out of your blood tests with the ranges for your own records and so you can post if you have a query.
Also ask GP to test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as iron etc are necessary for the uptake of levo.
There are about 300+ clinical symptoms of hypo so at least we don't get all of them. The aim of levo is to get rid of all symptoms and you feel well and health.
Regards
Hi Corry & welcome
i hope you're feeling better soon. It's an awful place to be when you feel ill but it will improve now you have been diagnosed & have medication. I have been hypo for years, but my first concern when I was diagnosed was to take the tablets & get on with life - I hope you can too.
Come back to the forum for any help the people on here are fantastic & will offer common sense advise.

Hi Corry, welcome.
Starting Levothyroxine can make you feel worse when you first start it. I don't know what your dosage is but you you may find that you will shortly need a dose increase after you have had your bloods rechecked.
Thyroxine is a strong hormone and when we're lacking in it, it can cause terrible physical and psychological problems.
The "sinking" feeling you describe is very thyroid related and will go as your thyroid becomes levelled off but you may need a higher dosage before this happens. Stick with it. Thyroxine takes time to work.
i think your dose is too low, so you are actually lower than when you first say the doctor. Find out WHY you are low thyroid.
