I have flaring Hashimotos that seems to be flaring terribly now my throat is so bad I cant swallow I have very raised antibodies and lots of nodules, this flare has been happening 2 weeks and I keep going very Hyper feel like I have severe flu like symptoms. But my real concern is its like something has affected my spine and knees with this flare, my back pain is lower and feel like somethings attacked the discs so bad I cant even sit and my knees are so inflammed I cant walk, they are so inflammed and stiff.............Can this happen with a hashi's flare or could some other antibodies be present - do I need to see a rheumatologist?
If so is there anyone I can see privately in Essex area - I am so debilitated by this all right now I am literally worn out with the pain and thyroid symptoms and am on T3, I really am disabled and housebound

Poor you, I hope you feel better soon. Don't know if it might help, but have you tried going gluten free? Many hashi's people find that helps, so might calm your flares.
i would go gluten and dairy free and work on healing your immune system. Functional medicine says it can get rid of Hashimotos. I have not felt well since i got it, so i am going to get rid of it! If you are interested, i will send you info. Many aren't interested in alternative approaches. They must be well on thyroid meds alone, but not me!
I am Gluten free which helps but still keen to try and reverse through functional medicine. Are you able to send me details please. I hope you feel better Riannabri, id defo give gluten free a try as that reduced my antibodies. i also feel slightly better when supplementing with Vit D, B12 and selenium
I have been totally Gluten, Dairy and carb free I have followed Dr Myhills Stone age and Ketogenic Diet for over 3 years not made any difference whotsever, antibodies remain continually high. Iodine rich foods flare it so I stay away from them also. I will start vit D again but personally I think I need to see a rhemy as I feel much more going on than just hashis as we know theres a high risk of Lupus, Sjrogens and RA when you have hashis
those other illness are all autoimmune, thus according to functional med. they are all caused by the same thing. If you don't heal the immune system, of course you get other issues. Heal the gut, stop the autoimmune disease.

Hi Faith63 I'm with you there on everything you have said. I am also determined to beat my Hashimotos using only alternative treatment and diet. Diet is crucial, people need to realise that. Medication alone will NOT get people well, it might at best mask the symptoms but then something else will pop up like RA. Things like acupuncture really help too
I also agree, I have worked with Dr Myhill on this for so many years but nothing helps lower my antibodies or inflammatory flares. I am Super stict and never eat anything I should not but it carries on and on- Have done alternative with thyroid meds for years but it continues to flare.
Riannabri maybe you need to change your diet or change something that you are doing at the mo. I mean to start with if you have been doing the same thing for years and this is not working for you then something needs to change.
have you been tested for ra?
Also do you feel stressed by what you eat etc etc?
I have suffered with ra for many years now and even though I see an alternative therapist I can tell you from experience that changing ones diet may help with ra.
However if you are just experiencing thyroid issues well maybe the alternative meds that you are on need to changed.
In my opinion something is not working for you.
Also on a personal note I eat a ton of fruit and veg and stay away from bread etc but I enjoy this way and yes certain things can cause flares for me but I do eat a ton of carbs and I don't necessary think that being low carb is the way to go. I think it is more important to keep a food diary and see how certain foods make us feel.
You may want to think about reading a book called the medical medium he talks about Hashis etc in his book.
Do get your B12, ferritin, folate and Vit D levels tested. All these can be low and the symptoms of pain and flu-like aching might be caused by the lack of one or more of these.
