That's good you got it out I got mine out but mine was benign. You must have got a shock to hear the cancer word but as I understand it the cancer has gone with your thyroid so hopefully you're on the road to recovery

It would have been a worry for you before your op. Now you are clear.

I hope you will be referred to a good, compassionate, Endocrinologist who'll prescribe optimum thyroid hormones for you. It has to be done gradually.

When you go for your next blood test, get the earliest possible and fast (you can drink water). Leave about 24 hours between your dose of levo and the test and take it afterwards.

Always get a print-out of your blood test results with the ranges for your own records and you can post if you have a query.

If you've not had a Vit B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate tested ask for these too. GP would usually do these.

Hi, total newbie and 1st post, and i'm looking at having my left thyoid node removed in june, can i ask why "When you go for your next blood test, get the earliest possible and fast (you can drink water). Leave about 24 hours between your dose of levo and the test and take it afterwards."surely your levo level would then be miniscule, would they get an accurate result?

Very scary hearing the "C"word I know,it looks like your healing very well in your picture,I've had the same thing but with two operations 6 weeks apart, lymph glands removed etc,I've only just found this site but wish I had 3 years ago when I first became ill & was told I had depression by the gp,are you having any further treatment?

Debeee, why did they think you where suffering from depression and what symptoms did you have?

Karengann, glad everything went well. Look after yourself and god bless x

Hi AngelaGM,sorry for the late reply I've only just spotted your question,I had all the classic symptoms of an under active thyroid ie. Gaining weight despite being on a diet ( I had lost about 2 stone & was very fit ) legs felt like lead& I had low energy but I also had felt a lump in my neck. The doctor did the usual blood test so a week or so later I went back to be told " you haven't got an under active thyroid your results are normal,I think you are depressed" & a prescription for anti depressants was duly written,I took one! I was in shock because I was certain that I had an under active thyroid,I have no idea just what the actual results were but she did want to refer me to see an ENT. I went private & had an appointment before the referral letter was even written. I had a FNA & scan, the doctor told me immediately that I had a multinodular goitre, the biopsy result was 75 % chance it was benign, eventually I had the operations & the treatments etc . It was cancer in both sides & in 3 lymph nodes .

Hi Karen,

I'm sorry to hear that the thyroid gland they've removed was cancerous. I too had thyroid cancer removed 3 years ago and it was a terrible blow. You might feel okay at the moment but, it is possible, that you will start to feel ill over the next few weeks. If this does happen then please feel free to PM me should you need someone to talk to. I've found it struggle because this type of cancer is so rare and I haven't managed to find a specific support group that can help.

Good luck.

TT xx

I'm so sorry your thyroid was malignant. I wish you the very best towards a full recovery.
