hi have just got latest results tsh 19.9 t4 12 was on 50 mcg levothyroxine . Doc has recommended increAsing levothyroxine to 75mcg . Took ist dose yest felt very shaky this morn . Will this increase help eventually had been feeling very anxious prior to increase . But still do tday how long till I feel better . Why is my tsh always fluctuating is it to do with being perimenopausal . Also given ketomine shampoo for very dry scalp because they don't know reason Iv lost so much hair x

They don't know much do they? Are unaware of the clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism. Prescribe doses which are too low. Adjust meds according to the TSH. - Result - the patient is not really much forward than before they were diagnosed or even worse with even more clinical symptoms.

How long have you been on 50mcg of levo? It should have been no longer than around 6 weeks before 25mcg increase and increments every six weeks till you felt much better with reduction in clinical symptoms. Your TSH is very high for someone on levo.

You might well have been feeling anxious prior to the increase to 75mcg because your dose was too low. We can have anxiety/nervousness because of our lack of thyroid hormones. I think you will settle down as your body adjusts to the new 25mcg increment. However, when your next test is due, get the earliest appointment and fast, you can drink water. Leave about 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the test. Also ask for Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate if they've not been done.

Thank u shAws always helpful with replies yes was on 50 for a lot longer than 6 weeks . Have been able to function but felt the anxiety lurking . Went for an early app so shd be as clear a result as poss . So it's rite to do wat they're advising and keep up with increase . Hpefully I will start to feel slightly better with symptoms as increase settles and when shd I get re checked c
