Going from NDT to T3 only.

Hi, I am new here. I spent a year and a half self-medicating with NDT following advices from STTP. Anyway, in all this time I haven't experienced any significant improvement and I am really disappointed in STTP in insisting so much on NDT treatment when clearly it is not helping everyone. So I decided to go on T3 and got a recommendation here for a supplier from which I just ordered. I am on 4 grains on NDT. Would appreciate your advice how to switch from NDT to T3 when my order comes and what should I expect from this change. Thanks.

Hi peanut5. I'll be following this post. I've done the change last Tuesday 02/02/16. I find it all very confusing. I was on 3 grains NDT. So I worked out around 60mcg T3 asking around here. At the moment I'm taking 20mcg on waking and the other 40 in four doses of 10 each three hours. I haven't noticed any changes to be honest. Just had a headache the 3 first days. Good luck and I'll be reading the replies here.

I was in the same situation with NDT like you. It didn't work for me at all and same as you I don't look at STTP any more because they are so narrow minded (in fact it is not "them", it belongs to one person as I know). When I took T3 I took immediately equivalent of what I was taking in NDT. So if you are taking 4 grains that would be 100 mcg of T3, but to be on the safe side since you probably don't have the use of T4 I would take 75 or less and than see is this enough, too much or too little.

Peanut5, 4 grains NDT is equivalent to 100mcg T3. There is 36mcg T3 in 4 grains so you may want to start lower on T3, say 25mcg x 3 daily initially and increase if necessary.

Thank you. I was calculating something like that but wasn't certain so I had to ask. Thanks again.

I switched from Levo, that I wasn't converting, to NDT. I can't remember the details now, it was so long ago, but I calculated and recalculated, then erred on the side of caution and still ended up hyper. Testing wasn't an option at the time so I went on symptoms. What I should have done is changed over gradually!

So I think if the NDT isn't doing anything for you, it might be a good idea to go gradually, because you don't really know what dose you need. Does that make sense? So if you replace one grain for a few days, then two etc you should be able to do it within a couple of weeks, with a lot less risk. You don't have to be too patient, 3 or 4 days on each dose is plenty to know if you are going over. Towards the end, maybe give it a bit longer, or go half a grain at a time?

But the good thing is that if you experience hyper symptoms, missing a day's dose will bring you back down to sensible levels.
