Support groups in the UK

Hi

I wondered whether there are any thyroid support groups where we can meet in person and chat through our treatment etc. I live in the North.

I have also wondered the same thing. But i live in the north. Finding someone local to chat to and to have that support surely will make me feel stronger

Unfortunately I live in Leeds West Yorkshire! Not sure if there is anything in this area.

Yes, I run a support group in Warwickshire and Barbara runs one in Morpeth, Northumberland. There are others too. If you are interested in starting one then do let us know.

Jefner I regularly post for each meeting. The next one is on Saturday 12th March, venue is a village in Warwick. Sometimes they are held in Solihull.

I live in Sunderland and joined a thyroid support group several years ago. At first we just met up regularly and met doctors, etc. However, these meetings fell off and now we meet up once a month as friends for a meal and a chat and we go for a nice Christmas meal too.

I started to run a support group in Kent but found that after the first couple of meetings, interest tailed off.

I am happy to start again but I would also need to have some idea of interest please.

Hi everyone

It's fantastic that so many of us would like to get together to form a support group - thank you all for replying.

I live in Chorley (Lancashire), but I can drive to wherever we decide to meet. Perhaps it is worth us trying to establish a fairly central point so we can get together?

I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid in 2014 and to be honest I have floundered ever since on the back of poor GP advice and my friends/colleagues not really understanding my dilemma.

I truly believe if we all get together and share what works we will achieve better health. You all collectively have much more knowledge than my GP and I think we could really help each other.

We will be a force to be reckoned with!

Ok, there are a few of us in Wigan, Chorley, Manchester & Lancashire. Probably best if we pick someone relatively central for us all to meet? We could meet in a cafe, hotel, restaurant etc... essentially somewhere fairly quiet where we can all speak freely.

Any suggestions for a venue?

Yes I would be up for that, perhaps a hotel might be best as cafes can get full and noisy. Lancaster is too far for me though.
