Hi Jefner I think I read it's better to take thyroid meds after the test that's what I do .

Not sure whether it also applies to antibody tests

Always take thyroid medication after the test . If you have a test, fast for it, water only. Get it as early as possible as that is when tsh is highest and dont take meds the night before..... Take them after the test.

Taking meds before a test can give a spike in the blood so you get a false reading..... This was admitted by Prof A Wheetman under oath at the 5 day hearing of Dr Skinner. The transcripts are available online.

Yes I do that with my standard thyroid bloods but wasn't sure whether it was the same rule for antibody tests, many thanks, I shall go tomorrow now

Stick to the same conditions for all blood tests, if you can possibly manage it. It maximises your ability to compare one test to another done several months later. It is a good policy to write your current symptoms down with each set of results too.

went to a different doc this morning as have been feeling so ill since Christmas, palpitations that don't seem to want to go away and severe anxiety. All my recent bloods came back normal (as per other post) and no infection in a urine. I got the attention of my doctor by asking my folks to write him a letter saying how worried they were about me because I wasn't getting better and feeling worse despite trying to help myself. He never mentioned the letter this morning as I asked them to write it without my knowledge ;) Anyway it worked and was very attentive and helpful. I spent a good 20 or so mins in there, way above my 10min standard appointment. Went through all my recent blood tests and I could see he was trying to find a reason for why I feel so ill. He actually said he didn't know enough about thyroid problems (how many doctors admit that!!!!) and has referred me to an Endo which I am quite pleased about. He also had a look online at different blood tests to check regarding thyroid and is willingly checking my magnesium, zinc, selenium, Vit D which I asked of him, because I after the addition of B12 making me feel ill, I would rather see what my levels are first before I supplement.

My blood pressure is OK but my pulse is a little fast so he is sorting me out with one of those ECG jobbies that you carry around with you for 24hrs. That frightens me a little but am trying to stay calm

Don't worry about the ECG thing, he is just trying to be thorough and covering his backside.

He is actually seems better than other docs within surgery. Have u had one done?

I had an EEG done in the doctor's surgery because my pulse was slow and heavy, but the nurse said it was fine, and once I increased my Levothyroxine a bit the slow heavy pulse went away. I haven't had the 24 hour one done, but I know people who have and it's no big deal.
