Margaret,
I am sorry to hear that you have had some unexpected news about your husbands health.
Worry and anxiety can be exhausting if not managed. Stress is often caused by external influences, while anxiety is an internal response and rooted in the gut … think of “butterflies in your tummy “ or having “ a gut feeling” often resulting in an upset tummy and headaches, panic attacks, and trouble sleeping.
There are about 500 million neurons in your gut that help control digestion and work with your brain.
Under stress, your body releases the hormone cortisol and too much can interfere with thyroid hormone levels.
Chris Kressler says chronic adrenal stress depresses hypothalamic and pituitary function and since these two organs direct thyroid hormone production, anything that disrupts the HPA axis will also suppress thyroid function.
Stress needs to managed to get your body back in balance and so able to cope easier.
A healthy diet of regular meals and having a healthy gut will help .
I use yoga, meditation and music as my personal rituals when feeling especially worried or stressed.

Thank you for your advise at the moment I just can't seem to relax.
Margaret, I'm very sorry for you and your husband. As Flower suggests, any sort of stress whether chemical or emotional puts you into fight or flight and is not meant to be your normal status. When you need to fight or run, all your other functions are minimalized and after a while would be injurious. Her suggestions for relaxation helps rid some of that stress so the other functions can go back to work.
I find that allowing myself to worry for a set time each day and then put it aside might help to control the worry. It really doesn't help to worry anyway as I'm sure you know. Hopefully this will resolve soon.
Thank ypu
Margaret,
Worry is destructive and can be hard to control when kept internalised, as the more we worry the more we may fail to see the overall picture.
Talking with a friend can be helpful as you will gain support, guidance and insight into his/her perspective of the problem.
I hope things recover for you soon.

((( Margaret ))) Just want to offer you a hug, and say I'm sorry you're husband's health is bad, and hope it will improve.
Margaret Just to let you know you have my sympathy and I hope you can manage to take the advice people have given and find ways to relax and de-stress so that this situation does not affect your own health. You and your husband are in my thoughts.
I suffer dreadfully with anxiety, my gp said it's part and parcel of having hypothyroidism.....she just wanted to throw more drugs at me. !!!!
I have found that when I'm anxious I get lots of knock on symptoms, headache, palpitations, tingling in my cheek , pins and needles in my arm, hands and fingers, hot chest..... Extra pathetic, have to go to bed .
But now I do the 5,4,3,2,1
Look for 5 things and say them out loud,
Touch 4 things, but say what they are before you touch them
Smell 3 things, big deep breath in as you inhale the scent, big angry breath all the way out as you say what it was you smelled
Taste 2 things..... And say out loud what your eating
Change 1 thing.....I always say..... I didn't ask for this anxiety, I don't want this anxiety I don't deserve this anxiety . And it's gone
I hope that this helps you, it's dreadful getting other symptoms when your already feeling terrible.
