My short term memory is really poor and I was diagnosed as having cognitive impairment a few years ago. My hypothyroidism went untreated for 30 years and I am thinking that my be the cause of my poor memory. I think I am doing well on new medication and am wondering if my memory will improve or continue to get worse.

Mandyjane, If the cognitive impairment was solely due to low thyroid you should have some improvement when you are optimally medicated, but I doubt anyone will be able to say how much improvement, or how long it will take.

mandyjane,
I am pleased you are doing well on NAX as have been previously ill for a while with hypothyroidism.
I noticed from a previous post you advised ....[ ...My mouth is full of huge fillings ...] ...
I recently had all my mercury out as believe some of us (with a certain genetic makeup) can not achieve a good level of health when burdened with toxic mercury in our mouths.
I have since noticed big changes in saliva constancy and started adding T3 to my T4 before mercury removal which helped me massively. I have had a lot of weird "head stuff" but now feel grounded and clear thinking. The difference is amazing.
I think the fact you have already added T3 (in Armour, etc) would indicate you might benefit from amalgam removal.

Thankyou flower. I am planning to save up to get my fillings removed. Quite expensive to get it done properly. All my money has been spent on christmas recently but I will save and get it done next year I hope. Thanks for the advice.
Ask for your B12 to be checked. Low B12 can play havoc with our brain function, and it often accompanies thyroid problems. My memory has improved with getting the B12 treated.
I thought it might be that, so supplemented with high does of sublingual B12, last time it was tested it was so high it was off the scale. So I dont think its that anymore.
Thanks anyway
Of course it was off the scale as you had been supplementing Supplements can remain circulating in the blood for sometime. The Guidelines for GP's state that testing whilst treating is not necessary as results will be skewed. Keep taking B12 - it is vitally important. B12 is needed in the cells and only 20% of what is in the blood can be transported to the cells to be utilised. GP's are useless - if they do not learn it at Medical School then it does not exist !!
