I know the best time for my blood tests is early on before food (hypo), but a friend has a test scheduled for hyper. What's the best time? Early on or late? Before or after food? Any ideas out there?

Time for blood test for over active?

Achilles_Pain, hypothyroid patients are advised to have early morning and fasting tests because TSH is highest then. It can help avoid a dose reduction and may help to get a dose increase when TSH is high. That won't be applicable to hyperthyroid patients with undetectable or very low TSH so your friend can probably test at anytime of day without fasting.

Thanks, I'll let her know. She's only just been diagnosed so doesn't know much about symptoms and impact yet. I know nothing, I'm hypo, so can't help.
I don't think there is an issue with hyperthyroidism because the blood test ranges are set to catch people who are hyper very easily - let's face it, the blood test ranges even detect people who are nicely medicated hypos as being hyper sometimes! Hyper blood test usually come out well over the top of both FT3 and FT4 ranges, and sometimes undetectable TSH. In fact the blood test ranges might well have been developed with hyper people in mind - they don't work any where near so well for detecting and treating hypos. So as has been said by other people, it doesn't matter when or how (fasting or not) the blood test is done.
