Not sure if I'm doing the right thing...

Just an update for those who were following my progress.

I've developed some new symptoms, not sure if they are typical of hypo.

Still sweating, still emotional, still constantly tired. In addition I've become really thirsty lately. Nothing seems to quench it. Unusual for me as I rarely drink water usually.

My hair is also shedding like crazy, more so lately and I'm seeing a lot of small grey hairs sprouting at the front of my head near the temples, I'm 31! I had a few before but they're reproducing! Eyebrows looking very scarce and scatty particularly from the bottom of the eyebrow and the end.

I've also started monitoring my temperature and it ranges from 35.7 degrees celsius (today) to 36.5.

I'm too scared to go on levothyroxine cos of the hair loss side effect so haven't got it from the chemist yet

What I think I should do now:

Retest my thyroid again privately

Ask my GP to refer me to an endo (anyone who can recommend a good endo in London please PM me)

In the meantime supplement with Higher Nature thyroid support supplement

What do you guys think?

You are already losing hair!! Why don't you google "functional medicine treatment for Hashimotos" and do that and maybe avoid the replacement altogether? I wish i had been able to do that.

You do have Hashimoto's?

Its not the levo that makes your hair fall out, its being hypothyroid!

Also, one of the many symptoms of hypothyroidism that Dr Skinner listed in his book is distrustfulness. I suspect your irrational fear of hair loss is also down to the illness.

The thyroid support supplement wont do any harm, but it is no substitute for a healthy amount of thyroid hormone in your system.

Thanks. I hear what you're saying but a side effect of levo is hair loss. I guess I don't want to compound the problem...

Well I don't take the stuff myself, but I have had a look at the data sheet. It mentions 'temporary hair loss, especially in children, in the first month of treatment'.

So have it your way, temporary on levo, or permanent without.

Hypothyroidism is not an illness to mess with. Its potentially fatal if untreated and I find your attitude unfathomable.

Have you been checked for diabetes?

Not recently, but my blood sugar has been checked regularly and its never posed an issue....

I hear what you're saying but would rather explore all my options. I try to eat and use organic natural products as much as possible so I don't like the thought of using a synthetic hormone, that may compound my already unfortunate hair situation

I only suggested it because being thirty can be a sign of diabetes, which I'm sure you know already.

I definitely think you should take thyroxine if you have been diagnosed.
