Does anyone else's symptoms deteriorate when it goes cold. My endo says that my thyroid doesn't know when it's colder or not but every year my symptoms go worse. Feeling tired and fibromyalgia type pains and aches xx

What is your Doc talking about ? The Thyroid is know as the Thermostat of the body and cannot always deal with the extremes of heat or cold. Of course we are all individuals and not everyone suffers. Many people increase their T4 in the Winter months as in many countries there is no positive effect from the sun and its warmth.

If they do not increase in Winter - then they sometimes reduce in the Summer :-)

Loads more links if you look on the internet :-) - I just chose one of many !

It's just obvious isn't it why do the doctors not realise. I can't take more T4 but he at least has agreed to try me on T3.

Thanks

Karunablue, thyroid knows! TSH responds to seasonal variations in temperature and light, as well as circadian rhythms. TSH is usually higher in autumn/winter and lower in spring/summer.

Karunablue, it doesn't make him a bad endo because he doesn't that but I do wish doctors wouldn't pooh-pooh patients when they say symptoms are better or worse at different times.

I know not listening to our experience doesn't help with being understood and helped

My semi-hibernation starts in September as I cannot bear the cold, so spend a great deal of time in bed with 24 togs of quilts & an electric blanket. If I have to go out, I'm in thermal undies, a fleece hoodie, with a down jacket & insulated boots.

My FM symptoms double when I'm cold, then my muscles spasm. I've found taking NDT has helped a little, as my temperature is now upper, rather than lower, 35 degrees.
