I am going to start trying DHEA for symptom relief of Hoshimitos symptoms with normal labs. Anyone know what recommended dosage would be to help feel normal again?

Hello Funnygenbunni,

I would never be brave enough to supplement something like DHEA as my hormones are so mixed up anyway but if you are going to.........

Dr P said it is much more important to keep the ratio correct between DHEA and cortisol firstly than to worry about the levels. i.e....it is better to have both low or both high levels than one low and the other high or vice versa. (I think the ratio is 1:6 but I can't be sure.....others may be able to advise).

In his book (page 118) after explaining about the use of glandulars Dr P writes......[...Another approach is to support the adrenal cascade directly. This will require

Pregnenolone (30mg)...OR ..DHEA (25mg) ..OR ... 7-keto DHEA (25mg).. all taken first thing in the morning. If there is a blockage to cortisol manufacture at the 17-OH pregnenolone level, then biotin should be taken to maintain enzymatic production...]..

You are trying to bring the adrenal function back into line with thyroid hormones.... .again balance.

He also says that DHEA requires a prescription in the UK.

Hope this helps,

Why do you think DHEA is going to relieve your symptoms of Hashimoto's?

This is an interesting thread. After describing to someone that my symptoms are much worse in the first half of my cycle then I feel my thyroid meds are actually working I'm the second half, they suggested I am suffering from "pregnenolone steal". I need to look in to what that means but that potentially I need to support DHEA part of the HPA axis. I never had this drastic split of symptoms before I started thyroid meds so I think that has cause an imbalance somewhere that can't support the thyroid meds in the first part of my cycle.

Goodlife,

You can correct this with Serenity progesterone cream as butterflyfairy mentions above.

I started using it 2 months ago for menopausal hot flushes.

It is easy to use and works a treat.
