Are we Living to Die? Or Dying to Live? - Thyroid UK
Are we Living to Die? Or Dying to Live?
Your comment is right and it's about time the BTA re-thought their pitiful guidelines in order that quite a number of patients can recover their health. If the procedures worked for everyone with a thyroid gland dysfunction, there would be no need for support groups. They should be far more flexible and co-operate with their patients. We haven't spent 8 years being trained to be doctors or specialists but if we, the patients, can suss out that there's something far wrong with the guidelines I am sure they should be able to be co-operative.
It costs the NHS far more money than the lowly cost of levothyroxine because if you add in the other medication given for clinical symptoms, and may eventually get heart complaints and other serious diseases plus the continuing visits to the surgery, loss of jobs, marriages, maybe homes and nowhere to turn or diagnosed as hypochondriacs or having mental health conditions.
For a supposed-to- be modern-country with a great Health Service, if we could only revert to the pre-50's when medical students were trained in clinical symptoms and patient prescribed a trial of thyroid hormones (no they are not dangerous). Whereas, today, it is deemed if our 'TSH is in range but we have dissatisfaction with levothyroxine - we are actually suffering from a Somatization Disorder'. It's well seen that more women than men suffer from this condition because if the male medical profession suffered you can be assured that different kinds of hormones would be prescribed.
Arr Suin,
I love quotes......
"He who is not satisfied with a little, is satisfied with nothing"
- Epicurus .... .. . ..I'd be well satisfied with a LITTLE T3..!!.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge"
- Albert Einstein ........I guess I can imagine having T3.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win"
- Mahatma Gandhi.....This is for when I win my appeal.
I like your quote even though it has sad connotations.

I'd ordered T3 do u think NDT is better? After RAI 20 yrs ago thanks
Suin, Try the T3 with Levothyroxine first. Not all thyroidectomised or RAI patients need NDT.
Ok I've it ordered clutter, and I'm hope for private endo appoint too,but if it doesn't happen I'm def do T3 with support on here. Cannot live like this any longer 👍🏻
Suin,
I recently added T3 to my T4 and feel a whole lot better. The change was very dramatic in a positive way and almost immediate because T3 has a very short half life.
The downside is I have to medicate twice a day but have set my phone alarm so no probs.
I medicate 7am (with Levo) and 3pm.
I am sure you will benefit too. Some members say you will know straight away if it is right for you by your immediate reaction.
I started on half dose for a week btw.

I actually can't wait! I've had 20 yrs of preparing. Thanks so much, I only feel "normal" since I've found all these ppl on this site! Why has it taken me so long? 😕
So pleased to bring an element of normality into your life Suin....I'm not so sure I feel that normal though....lol.....but who cares.

Ok, because it's natural? Or because of my RAI?
