Hi, can any of you recommend a suitable OTC eye drop for dry eyes as diagnosed by my optician.
Many thanks,

I use Systane when mine are bad. Make sure you get the preservative free ones if you are going to use them regularly. They are not particularly cheap but are the only ones that do the job for me. I actually bought them at my optician - chemists were more expensive.

I use lacri lube which I put in at night done wonders formy dry eyes
I have used Lacrilube at night and single-dose unit (SDU) ViscoTears. Unfortunately, as foreversummer says, those with preservative often cause problems, especially with regularly use. And preservative-free are expensive (around ten pounds for 30 single dose capsules and bank on using up to four a day).

I use preservative free Hycosan - they do a few different versions, all good - they are my favourite and you can see right away when you use them because they tend not to blur your vision. I buy them from an optician but I see you can get them online from Amazon - you can also get them on prescription but they I dont think doctors like giving them because of the cost - have also used Visco Tears in the past.
You need to put them in frequently throughout the day, not just three times a day. I tend to use them a lot when my eyes are bad, then my eyes feel better then I don't bother using them and my eyes get dry again and so on. Did your optician not recommend anything?

Hi Liz,
Thank you for your reply, at the moment I am using Viscotears Gel, and whilst they are good at stopping the soreness, they take about a minute to stop the blurred vision, really strange putting gel in my eyes. I`ll check out the Hycosan. Can`t see my Gp prescribing them though!

Sorry Liz, I did`nt mention that my optician recommended Natural Tears, which I find hard to locate, one chemist said there were more up to date products to use, this is how I ended up with Viscotears Gel, no problems except with the blurry vision for a minute, I just keep blinking, though it can be a nuisance, but that`s my own personal view.

I get Celluvisc prescribed, single doses and find them the best I've used. But you can buy them. Not sure how much.
Hi shambles, Thank you for your advice, I`ve had some good replies to my query, I`m going to try one a month, and see which suits me the best.
I didn`t realise there were so many available, I`ve tried Naturale tears, but this can be hard to locate at times. I`m new to this games, so trial and error at the moment.
Sorry I was late in replying, but am still learning this new site.

I have lacrilube and viscotears, I get mine on prescription so they are free
Hi TT, was it easy to persuade your Gp to prescribe the eyedrops, I don`t think mine would be open to this. At present I`m using Viscotears Liquid Gel, good, but I find it take a about a minute to stop the blurred vision. My optician also recommended taking a fatty acid tablet which may alleviate the symptoms, so I`m taking Flaxseed Oil or Evening Primrose Oil capsules.
Sorry late in replying new site layout!

Hi l, have very dry eyes for last 5 years ,and have tried so many different products could start up a shop but last week have found a most amazing product made by clinitas called Hydrate its fantastic got it from a place called eyebuddy find it on google its much cheaper than opticians they posted it out to me same day, hope its ok to give details ,hope it works for you. x
Hi gemini,
I `ve had some good replies to my problem, so I`m going to work through the list, find out which is good for me. Most of the products only seem to last a month, so it`s an expensive business, but i`m going to have fun trying all the products recommended by everyone. This is all new to me at present, so it`s going to be trial and error methinks.
Thank you, and sorry I`m late in replying new site layout! Though I am slowly getting to grips with it.
