Kayla, if you were given the results and ranges (figures in brackets after results) post them and members will advise.

If not, contact the GP receptionist and ask for a printout of the results and ranges or ask her to read them to you. If she is unable to supply them ask to speak to the practice manager. The Data Protection Act entitles patients to their results. There should be no fee for results requested within 40 days of testing but the practice is entitled to charge a nominal £1/£2 fee to cover the cost of printer ink and paper. I refused to pay £10 my practice manager demanded and arranged to view my results online at the surgery with a view to making my own notes.

If necessary make a written subject access request to the practice manager for your results.

In your last post, you said they said your levels were in the middle. In which case, you are almost certainly right, and they are almost certainly wrong - as no thyroid blood test shows levels to be at their best when they're in the middle!

How rude and patronising to laugh at you. Might be worth writing a letter of complaint to the practice manager. All patients deserve to be treated with respect.

Insist on having your blood test results - they may try to charge you a small fee for printing them, but if they try to make you pay too much, ask if you can supply the paper they're written on (and the pen too, if you like). :)

I'm thinking of changing my doc anyway . I no there something not right. They're saying I'm perimenapause even though my results were normal.

email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk and ask for a copy of the Pulse online article by Dr Toft. Highlight question 6 and send the copy to your GP before your next appointment. If you are on levothyroxine Dr Toft says we can have a low or suppressed TSH or the addition of some T3.

Well, Kayla1

Just print out the full text of the following link and your doctor can laugh from the other side of his face:- :)

It's too large for you to view on your phone. I think you'd need a laptop or computer.

You are obviously not on the correct amount of thyroid hormones or on the right combination, so don't feel like a hypochondriac as the doctors are just completely unaware of how we feel. It's about time they read some research instead of taking the easy way out by just looking at the ranges and if patient is 'in range' they mistakenly believe they are on sufficient hormones. If we have symptoms we are NOT on sufficient hormones - I wonder when, if ever, they will absorb this fact. :)

Prob never. They don't like spend on the money to investigate further. Can't understand if both levels ( hormones and thyroid ) are normal but hell treat the hormone prob and laugh at the thyroid . it just makes no sense

I have been on thyroxine for many years and only started putting on weight with the onset of the menopause. Not everything can be blamed on thyroxine levels.

If you don't mind mW asking what have they done to help with the weight gain. I go to the gym 3 times a week and swim after I also walk my dog twice a day just stay at the same weight.

Not what you're looking for?
