The skin pinch test in hypo

In case untreated members haven't heard of this, I'm Just posting this link to a video, it has a very cute little girl in it as a bonus.

Not everyone with hypo has this apparently, but it's an interesting test to throw in. Not that your GP will be interested.

No link so I googled it. Interesting, I tried and can't pinch my skin. I have only been on Levothyroxine for 4 weeks so still under medicated.

Sorry no link. Brain is dead for obvious reasons. Thanks humanbean! The great thing is, no one can say she's like that because she's fat. Those arms are a very neat size.

I have this problem all over my body. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has had the problem disappear when they were optimally medicated.

I don't think some GPS would be interested even if you grew an extra head because you are Hypo.

This might help :

And someone called Mark Starr wrote a book on the subject which gets very good reviews :

(I haven't read it myself.)

Thanks, humanbean.......this is so useful. I was getting a bit mixed up and thinking type 2 hypo was due to pituitary problems. The article is really informative and makes me want to buy the book now. It says that the treatment might be a bit different for type 2, but then in the treatment section it doesn't say HOW it would be different. However, maybe the book expands on this a bit more. Its such an interesting aspect of hypo...... That the problems many of us have may be down to thyroid hormone resistance and not purely due to decreased production of thyroid hormones.

I can't pinch mine either.... do we know why this is? :-/

This might help to explain it : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxedema

The "solidness" of the skin is caused by mucin being deposited just below the skin. It's a form of edema (or oedema).
