cant believe what a difference a year makes this time last year i was told any thyroid symptoms i had were 'all in my head' and arrangements were made for me to see a mental health team. this april i saw an endo (privately) who comfirmed hashis. i have another appointment with him in october when he will look at my latest blood results.

Amazing isn't it. Well done for ditching the useless ones and finding someone who has helped you. Good luck in the future. 😀

It still disgusts me though. What if you couldn't have afforded to go privately? It shouldn't have to be such a battle.

It does annoy me too but it seems to be happening more and more these days.

Doctors seem to be reluctant to carry out anything more than a basic TSH then if you fit into the enormously wide 'range' then no matter how I'll you are feeling you can forget about getting your thyroid investigated.

I can't understand (from comments I've seen on here) why so many doctors are quite happy to hand out antidepressants / statins and almost any other sort of pill rather than admit that, although you are within 'the range' and have lots of symptoms of an under active thyroid, the fact you are feeling awful could quite easily be that you are hypothyroid. It totally beats me. I know I must sound cynical - I never used to be. :)

I think you'll find they get paid to prescribe anti depressants and statins. There's your answer.

i was lucky that i was left a bit of money from my late father which went towards the payment. well meaning friends said i should have used it towards a good holiday but it seemed pointless going away and not enjoying things due to feeling so unwell.

I'm just over a year diagnosed Hashis too. Without my private endo there is no way I would be getting treatment options either. I hope your symptoms are improving :)

That's why so many here have decided to treat themselves which is probably cheaper than going private. I have plenty of insurance and still can't get my doctor to do the right thing in the U.S. It's the prevailing standard treatment for thyroid and it is far worse than the treatment of fifty years when they looked at symptoms.

although we have the NHS in the UK many people are choosing to go private due to long waiting lists and dis-satisfaction with the service.
