Can anyone please offer some advice, I am currently taking 150mcg of Levothyroxine for my hypothyroidism. The doctor said to wait 4 months before I do another test. I feel terrible, I'm exhausted and I'm suffering from bloating and abdominal pains. Any help would be appreciated. My results are attached as a photo, Thanks liz

Welcome to the forum, ChrisandLiz.

Was Levothyroxine increased to 150mcg after your blood test?

Hello there,

No that was my current level before the test. I've been on that level for 12 months

ChrisandLiz, I assume you take Levothyroxine daily, one hour before, or two hours after, food and drink except water and you take it at least two hours away from other medication and supplements and, 4 hours away from iron, calcium, vitD and oestrogen.

150mcg is usually enough to suppress TSH. Your GP should increase dose every 6-8 weeks until your TSH is around 1.0 with FT4 in the top 75% of range. If you feel unwell on the T4 it could well be because you aren't converting it properly to the active T3 hormone. I have some information that may help you understand why you feel this way. I've been there done that and read the book with T4. lynthip@aol.com

Your TSH (that most brutal of indicators) is clearly out of range. Did your doctor say why s/he hasn't adjusted your medication to try and get it down? Even by normal GP standards you are clearly not well medicated. We know your TSH should be 1 or less, if you're to feel remotely well. And that, of course, may not be the whole story, even then.

Thank you everyone, I have booked to see a different doctor on Monday. I will inform you all from the second opinion. I'm really glad I found this forum, it is good to know there are people that understand these problems
