Today I was at school I woke up and got ready to school and everything fine until my heart paused then back to normal then when I walked home I had it again then after 5 minutes it happens twice in a minute then after 5 minutes another one.

I am 14 and I have heart palpation for 4 weeks but today was a lot worse. Iv been into 4 hospitals in the past 3 weeks. All heart specialists told me I was fine. Iv seen a doctor last week and checked my blood pressure and said Im fine. Should I see the doctor tomorrow?

Do you take medication for your thyroid? It's very common for thyroid problems to cause heart palpitations and if your heart has been checked and is ok, then it's possible that your thyroid medication needs to be changed a little. Do you have your thyroid blood test results?

Try not to panic it isn't usually anything to worry about although it can make you feel weird.

Have you ever been given a 24 hour or longer term heart monitor to wear? Think it might be called a 'walking monitor' I don't know that much about them other than I know a couple of people who have had them.

My neighbour had one when she got up to feed the dog, fainted and woke up with a broken ankle - think they must have thought it was to do with her heart. I took her in to have it fitted then returned it the following day after she took it off. If you were given one and things were fine then it would put your mind at rest.

I've had times in the past (and I'm still here 😊) when I've had that missing heartbeat feeling - I've read that it is actually an extra heartbeat but who knows! On one occasion the doctor even felt it when she was taking my pulse and my husband could hear it when he put his head on my chest - I've had several ECGs done and been told I'm fine so I know exactly how difficult and annoying it is when you keep being told you are fine yet you are still having the same heartbeat problem.

Maybe you could ask for a walking monitor to put your mind at rest.

When you get an extra beat it is followed by what is termed a compensatory pause so it will probably feel like you have missed a beat. It sort of makes sense as its electrical impulses that regulate the heart beat so having a quick beat means it has to leave time to recharge the batteries as it were.

Are you on thyroid meds?

I had heart problems before getting levothyroxine. High pulse, palpitations and sometimes the feeling you describe, like the heart stops for a moment. It is not a nice feeling.

I had a ultrasound of my heart which was fine and a ECG, which was fine too.

I just noticed that I don't have much palpitations anymore. Also my pulse is lower since getting levo. And that feeling is gone too. So to me it's clear it was from the thyroid, not the heart itself.

Often low magnesium will affect the heart like that. Your heart is okay, it just needs magnesium possibly.

My heart has done that for the past 13 years, it feels scary, but actually is okay. Your heart pauses then makes aloud compensatory beat, it beats. Try not to be frightened by it, it isn't going to harm you. However, I did notice that it stopped for a few months when I got my T3 up, so is probably something to do with being undermedicated. Are you on thyroid meds? It won't kill you though, just annoying and better if you can get your meds right so it stops annoying you!
